Christy Municipal Building, 320 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. Janice McMillan opened the meeting by introducing herself and then asked that everyone attending would introduce themselves. Election of Officers After some discussion Michael Shellman volunteered to Chair the Board and Kenneth Klamm volunteered to be the Co-Chair. ' Introduction to City Cemeteries by PowerPoint Presentation David Grellner with the assistance of Don Beck presented an informative introduction using PowerPoint of the City-owned cemeteries: Longview Cemetery, Wooqland Cemetery, and Fairview Cemetery (known as the Old City Cemetery). ! New Business a. Review cemetery ordinances. David Grellner went through the ordinances with the Board. Sepulcher and Cemetery Board in Chapter 7, Article XX of the City Code sets the guidelines for the establishment of the Board. Cemeteries in Chapter 1 0 of the City Code explains application of the City laws pertaining to the cemeteries. b. Review cemetery contract. David Grellner reviewed the Maintenance Contract with the Board. The current contract will run out this year and a new one will be written up. Other Topics and Issues The Board discussed about how often to meet. David Grellner statedi that the ordinance says they must meet at least 3 times a year. However, the Board agreed that they could meet more often, maybe quarterly. Janice McMillan reminded them that budget talks were to begin soon. $20,000 is budgeted for maintenance and this basically covers mowing. She suggested that they should begin to make a list of what they would like to accomplish for the next year and what the costs would be. This amount could then be submitted duringl the budget talks. The Board decided to meet next month, April 12, 2012, to take a tour of the cemeteries in order to get a feel for them and to begin making a list of goals. 1 Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resources Board March 22, 2012 Goals that were suggested by City staff and may be considered are: • The wall on McCarty Street at Woodland/Old City Cemetery is starting to fail • Some stones are beginning to pop out or crumble • Some of the family plots have failed • Stones have broken • Clark Mausoleum needs repair • Some isles at Longview need to be straightened • Some stones need to be moved • Plant trees that are durable • Enhance the landscaping at Longview Don Beck, Janice McMillan, and David Grellner will each put together their list of cemetery needs and give to the Board. The Board will then review them all and put together a written plan that will prioritize the needs of the cemeteries. The current price of each plot in Longview Cemetery was discussed. The cost is $200. The Board may consider raising the fee. Board member Kenneth Klamm volunteered to call some of the local cemeteries and make a list of the fees being charged.
