HomeMy Public PortalAbout20121018minutesMinutes Meeting of Cemetery Resources Board Thursday, October 18, 2012 Members Present: Michael Shellman, Chair Steven Wells, Co -Chair Mark Schreiber Member Absent: Aaron Sewell Staff: David Grellner, Environmental Health Manager Don Beck, Property Inspector The Cemetery Resource Board met on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Small Conference Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. Chairman Michael Shellman called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Approval of Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes for the August 23, 2012 meeting by Mark Schreiber and seconded by Steven Wells. The minutes were approved. Old Business: The Cemetery website was discussed and Mark Schreiber and David Grellner will meet to put together information for the website. The project priority list was discussed and it was approved by the Cemetery Board to place the Clark Mausoleum as Project #1 for restoration, Project #2 will be the Grieshammer Plot, and Project #3 the Koecher double plot. Funding will need to be secured to proceed with restoration of these projects. The Cemetery wall along E. McCarty Street was discussed. David Grellner stated that Dave Snyder of Jacob's Restoration Services stated that the wall is probably flaking off due to moisture, thawing, freezing, and vibrations from traffic. His opinion was that the wall will flake back to a point (the peaks), but will tend to stabilize. The State of Missouri lots were also discussed and Mark Schreiber may have some contacts with State Officials in helping with the State Plot areas. New Business: The Monument Dedication by Mr. Glover Brown was discussed. The date and time of the dedication will be October 30, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. City staff has been working with Mr. Brown in making this project a success. Don Beck explained how Capital Monuments will inscribe the stone with the names and costs. Don Beck also mentioned interest from an individual in Kansas City on inscribing a name of a relative on the monument. Minutes for the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resources Board October 18, 2012 The Cemetery Maintenance Contract was discussed and the Cemetery Board approved the selection of Lamberson Lawn Care as the maintenance contractor for the two City Cemeteries after staff showed them the costs and staff evaluations of the contractors. Other topics and issues: Steven Wells asked whether the marker stones for plots had been installed at Longview Cemetery. Don Beck explained that we are waiting on Public Works Surveying Crew to do the work when their schedule allows. Mr. Wells asked whether there was any way to locate graves. Mark Schreiber stated there was ground penetrating radar and using a metal rod to find the graves. The Board suggested on changing the ordinance so that every new burial should have a permanent marker and the Board discussed that truly indigent needs a marker funded by the City. Steven Wells asked if a foundation had been set up and David Grellner stated he will check with Janice McMillan. The Cemetery Board would like to see the cost of a grave spot increased and Mr. Wells asked Mr. Beck if he could keep track of how many grave lots he sells. General discussion about cemetery maintenance occurred and using community service was discussed. The next meeting date was set for December 13, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in the Small Conference Room in City Hall. Mr. Schreiber motioned to adjourn, Mr. Wells seconded. Meeting adjourned.
