An ordinance will be introduced to the City Council at the December 17, 2012 Council meeting that after January 1, 2013 all burials in Longview Cemetery shall be required to be accompanied by a gravestone identifying the person buried there in. David Grellner reported Sharon Atteberry stated that a gravestone 16x8x4 would be approximately $60.00. This included the inscribing of the name, birth and death date. Also an ordinance increasing the cost of the City Cemetery Lot will be introduced to Council at the December 17, 2012 Council Meeting. The current cost is $200.00 and will be increased to $400.00. The "Gone But Not Forgotten" monument was discussed. It was reported by David Grellner that no additional names have been added to the monument at this time, but staff would take the history book of the cemetery and go row by row to find graves that are unmarked and add those names to the stone. A funding source will need to be secured to accomplish this. The City Web Page for the Cemeteries is up and running. Additional information will be added over time to enhance it. The project list voted on by the Cemetery Board in the previous meeting will be presented during budget time to help secure funding for these projects. Public Works has begun the process of marking lot markers at Longview Cemetery. Don Beck reported that eighteen burials were conducted at Longview Cemetery in 2012. Mr. Beck also discussed the future of the cemetery at Longview and acquiring the neighboring property next door may be an option to expand. Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resources Board December 13, 2012 pg. 2 New Business: Steven Wells brought up the idea about placing City Cemetery information of the newly created JCMO app created by Michael Roling. David Grellner will find out more information concerning this. Steven Wells also brought up question as to whether the City Cemeteries were on a National Historic Register List. It was discussed that the City Cemeteries were on the City of Jefferson Historic Preservation List, but not on the National Historic Register List. Mark Schreiber mentioned maybe a plaque should be placed at the fence of the cemetery mentioning this and will explore the idea of getting the City Cemeteries on the list of Historic Sites. Mr. Schreiber also mentioned that getting individual plaques to recognize individuals in the cemeteries would be a good idea. Discussion was brought up of how important public awareness of the City Cemeteries is, and how the East Side development is important. Donald Beck also mentioned that there were wreaths located at the National Cemetery for veterans, but not for the veterans in the City Cemeteries. Mr. Beck also would like to accomplish a list of all the veteran's graves in the City Cemeteries. Mark Schreiber discussed the use of interns from the University of Missouri to accomplish projects. He stated Riverview Cemetery has used them in the past. Don Beck stated he will make up a Bicentennial History Book created by the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1976 for the Cemetery Board. Michael Shellman presented an idea about placing the map of the City Cemeteries online and for individual grave plots to be selected and information given. Don Beck stated this may be possible through the I.T. Department. Other topics and Issues: The next meeting date was set for March 14, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the Small Conference Room in City Hall.
