A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, PALM BEACH COUNTY,
FLORIDA, SUPPORTING LEGISLATION RELATING TO TRAFFIC
CONTROL DEVICES AND PERMITTING THE INSTALLATION
AND USE OF TRAFFIC INFRACTION DETECTION DEVICES AT
INTERSECTIONS; DIRECTING THE TOWN CLERK TO
TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE
GOVERN • OR OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA, TO THE
PRESIDENT OF THE FLORIDA SENATE, TO THE SPEAKER OF
THE FLORIDA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, TO EACH
MEMBER OF THE PALM BEACH COUNTY LEGISLATIVE
DELEGATION, TO THE MEMBERS OF THE PALM BEACH
COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, TO THE MAYORS OF
EACH MUNICIPALITY IN PALM BEACH COUNTY, TO THE
PALM BEACH COUNTY LEAGUE OF CITIES, AND TO THE
FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Transportation's Federal Highway
Administration has estimated that the running of red lights results in significant costs to Florida
citizens; and
WHEREAS, in a typical year in Florida over 9,000 crashes at intersections result in nearly
14,000 injuries and over 100 fatalities; and
WHEREAS, although automobile crashes at intersections may be caused by many variables,
the running of red lights is entirely within the control of drivers; and
WHEREAS, the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream finds it to be in the best
interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the Town of Gulf Stream to support
legislation that would authorize the installation and utilization of traffic infraction detection
devices at intersections
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the Town Commission of the Town of Gulf Stream hereby
supports legislation that would authorize the installation and
utilization of traffic infraction detection devices at intersections
throughout the State of Florida.
SECTION 2. That the Town Clerk is hereby directed to provide copies of the
resolution to the Governor of the State of Florida, to the President
of the Florida Senate, to the Speaker of the Florida House of
Representatives, to each member of the Palm Beach County
Legislative Delegation, to the Palm Beach County Board of
County Commissioners, to the Mayors of each municipality in
Palm Beach County, to the Palm Beach League of Cities, and to
the Florida League of Cities.
SECTION 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Town of Gulf Stream this 8th Day
of April 2004.
