HomeMy Public PortalAbout20080619eqcminutesEnvironmental Quality Commission Meeting Minutes Thursday June 19, 2008 Present: Jim Crabtree-Chairman, Rob Didricksen, Kristen Hilty, Marty Miller, Carol Davit, Nsalambi Nkongolo, Pam Barkhaus; Staff: Melva Fast, Janice McMillan, Bill Lockwood, JJ Gates, Ray Wallace; Liaison: Councilman Jim Penfold. Meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. Minutes from the May meeting were approved. Street Tree Plan Review Parks & Recreation staff presented information about the Downtown Tree Plans adopted in 1976, 2001, 2008 and showed existing trees. Recommendations for future plantings were requested from the Commission to better incorporate desirable urban trees and planning. Handouts were distributed of listings for approved street tree planting and new trees for the city. Commission members were asked to individually select 10-12 species to foster a broad discussion at the next meeting about desirable street trees, a street tree planting plan and tree wells. Recycling Update - Chairman Crabtree updated the Commission about progress with the quote for single stream recycling services. At the last Council meeting a resolution was passed to solicit a quote from Allied Waste for a 3 and 5 year extension of the current contract that would incorporate single stream recycling into the service. The quote will probably be returned sometime in August for review. Other Business Rob Didricksen announced that the downtown recycling committee had ordered shirts for the July 4th celebration that are made from plastic bottles and recycling cotton, Also there will be a river race from Kansas City to St. Louis in July. The Carl Noren Access in North Jefferson City is a check-in point. Meeting adjourned 7:30 p.m. Next meeting will be August 21st at 6:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted,
