HomeMy Public PortalAbout20081108eqcminutes Environmental Quality Commission Meeting Minutes Thursday – November 20, 2008 Members Present: Jim Crabtree-Chairman, Nsalami Nkongolo, Marty Miller, Carol Davit, Pam Barkhaus, Jim Penfold-Council Liaison; Staff Present: Melva Fast, Janice McMillan, Charles Lansford, Steve Rasmussen. Called to order at 6:40 p.m.; minutes from the October meeting were approved. Recycling Update Chairman Jim Crabtree and Rob Didricksen attended the solid waste pre-bid conference. Crabtree distributed a letter that expressed his concern with the current RFP. The three areas of concern: transfer station, container size, street repair. There was a discussion about the proposal evaluation process included with the RFP distribution. It was explained that after a preliminary evaluation of proposals by a staff committee, the Council Administration Committee will then meet to review the staff evaluations and recommend to the staff how to proceed with the award to the selected company. After negotiations, staff will meet with the Administration Committee to get their approval before the contract is moved forward to the full Council for consideration. Southside Redevelopment Plan Chairman Crabtree discussed the formation of the broader non-profit corporation that has formed —The Old Town Revitalization Company. The efforts to coordinate the redevelopment of the older, inner city were outlined and the specific plans for the 100 Block of E. Dunklin were described. There was discussion about the whole concept of neighborhood revitalization, specifically Ash Street and Prison Redevelopment. Other Business Carol Davit advocated for a more concerted effort to “sell the city” by promoting beautiful images and the amenities that Jefferson City already has – the greenway trails, festivals and events. Meeting adjourned 7:30 p.m. Next meeting will be January 15th at 6:30 p.m.
