HomeMy Public PortalAbout20090820eqcminutesEnvironmental Quality Commission Meeting Minutes Thursday – August 20, 2009 Present: Jim Crabtree-Chairman, Carol Davit, Kristin Hilty, Dave Hagan, Marty Miller, Jim Penfold-Council Liaison; Staff: Melva Fast, Bill Lockwood, Janice McMillan; Guests: Councilwoman Carrie Carroll, Stan Cowan, Rosa Ruiz. Called to order at 6:30 p.m.; roll call- a quorum was present. Street Trees Plan A final “Recommended Downtown Street Tree Planting Listing & Street Designation” list (revised August 21, 2008) was distributed by Bill Lockwood, Director of Parks & Recreation. The list was approved by the Commission. New Trash/Recycling Contract-Update Melva Fast updated the Commission on the progress with the implementation of the new trash/single stream recycling program. Applications forms for low income, special consideration for disabled and small cart service has not been as robust as anticipated. The new contract will begin November 1. Whitten Expressway Update It was announced that design funding for the project was underway. There is currently no construction funding; a public hearing will be scheduled to complete the environment review process. Other Business Carol Davit distributed the Missouri River Relief flier to promote the Jefferson City River Clean up on Saturday, September 19 at the Carl Noren Access. Stan Cowan with the Cole County Partners for Clean Air made a presentation about Smoke Free JC and asked for individual support or endorsement from the Commission. It was agreed to discuss it at the next meeting. Jim Penfold reported on the progress of a sidewalk master plan and looking at a needs-based system. Bill Lockwood announced a groundbreaking for a greenway section next week. Next meeting will be the third Thursday in September. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
