Kesha called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.; a quorum was present.
Approval of Minutes
Pam moved to approve the Minutes from October 28, 2010. Second by Sister Camilla
Verret.
Recycling update
Lillian Kinard of Allied Waste gave the quarterly report of the City-Wide trash and single-
stream recycling program. In the last 15 months ( November 2009-January 2011)
14,428 tons of waste has been collected. Of that tonnage, 3,201 tons has been diverted
from the landfill and sent for recycling. Allied collects on average; 213.5 tons of
recyclables per month from residents. Allied takes the recyclables to Federal Recycling
and has never had a load rejected. That means that people are recycling correctly and
following the guidelines of the program. Lillian also explained the life of recyclables from
trash can -> federal recycling -> Earth City. Only 3% of what is taken to Earth City from
all over goes back into the landfill. Lillian also explained that allied will pick up
commercial recycling if they are already on a community route.
Lauren Hershey gave an update on the glass. The city had their first pick up and the
weight was 21.20 tons of glass. Ripple Glass gives each load a glass a score on a scale
from 1 to 10, 10 being the best and 1 being the worst. The City’s glass was rated a 1
due to the amount of trash that was in the load. The members discussed education to
reduce the trash.
The City of Jefferson has a 23% diversion rate.
Review and Update or Annual Report
Make sure dates and information is correct. The EQC’s goal is to have the report ready
to go by Earth Day, April 22. Kesha talked briefly about what should be included and
who was taking care of which sections. The PACE program should be included in the
report or at least a description since it has generated much attention. Will try to have a
draft of the report in March.

Next meeting will be on March 17, 2011.
