Present: Kesha Nelson; Joe Winklemann, Sister Camilla Verett, Kristen Hilty,
Pam Barkhaus
Staff: Lauren Hershey and Councilman Ralph Bray
Kesha called the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m.
A quorum was present.
Kesha made a motion to adopt the agenda; second by Sister Camilla.
Pam moved to accept the March minutes with corrections; second by Kristen.
Solid Waste & Recycling Update
Lauren Hershey gave an update about the recycling projects going on in
Jefferson City. The update included upcoming events and amounts of waste
collected with the various programs. To date, the City of Jefferson has
recycled 21.20 tons of glass at their 2 drop off locations. The Cole County
Household Hazardous Waste facility has serviced over 100 residents to date.
The Police Department has collected over 150 lbs of pharmaceuticals and in
April over 21,000 lbs. of e-waste was collected.
EQC Looking Ahead
Kesha explained the EQC report will be presented at the June 6th Council
meeting and asked what “direction” the EQC wanted to take. Pam indicated
the EQC needed to decide what issues the commission wanted to tackle and
suggested JC become a more business friendly place. Sister Camilla suggested
we get someone to help with visioning. Councilman Bray indicated he would
share with the commission what is on the wish list from the Council Retreat.
Kristin indicated she would like to continue with sidewalks, trees, etcs.
Next meeting will be on June 16th, 2011 and August 25th, 2011.
