Christy Municipal Building, 320 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, MO. The meeting was called to order by Cathy Bordner, Chairman. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The March 13, 2012 minutes were not available. Commissioners reviewed minutes from the April 10, 2012 meeting. A motion was made by Commissioner Bill Case and seconded by Commissioner Art Hernandez to approve the minutes. The motion carried unanimously without corrections. COUNCIL ISSUES Councilman Ralph Bray reported the City Council is in budget prep and considering 20 Bills. The Council is looking at putting the Fire Sales Tax issue on the August 2012 ballot. He also reminded the Commission of the Landmark Award ceremony in Council Chambers on May 24, 2012, at 4:00 PM. CITY ISSUES Ron Davenport reported on city issues. He had another 106 Review for rehab work at 824 Fairmount Blvd. The Commission had no comments. DEMOLITION APPLICATIONS a. 518 Boonville Rd. Mr. Mike Bates addressed the Commission on this demolition request. He built and owns the home next door. His plan is to demolish the house at 518 Boonville and rebuild a home that he and his wife would occupy. He stated that the 518 house is water damaged and would be too costly to rehabilitate. Commissioner Bill Case made a motion to Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the City of Jefferson Historic Preservation Commission May 15, 2012 recommend approval of the demolition of the house at 518 Boonville Rd. Commissioner Mark Schreiber seconded. After some discussion, the motion was approved 5 to 3. b. 1410 Swifts Hwy. This property is part of a number of sites being acquired by Helias Catholic High School for a possible sports complex sometime in the future. Commissioner Art Hernandez made a motion to recommend approval of the demolition of the house at 1410 Swifts Hwy. Commissioner Bill Case seconded. The motion was approved unanimously. OLD BUSINESS a. Landmark Awards and Ceremony. Commission Chair Bordner reminded the Commission that the award ceremony will be held on May 24, 2012 in Council Chambers. The winners have been made public and the Commission was free to discuss them. b. Update on National Register Nomination for the Moreau Heights Neighborhood. Both Janice McMillian and Ron Davenport reported that the grant has been approved. The next step is to find a consultant. Commissioner Art Hernandez volunteered to be the Commission's representative on the RFQ committee. c. Historic Overlay District. Janice McMillian reported that there are two issues with the Commission's previous recommendations: (1) a change in the boundaries was suggested and (2) the issue of demolition needed to be reconsidered. It was decided that Ms. McMillian would get copies of the new draft language to the Commissioners for consideration at the June 121 2012 meeting. NEW BUSINESS a. Commissioner Ed Meyers reported that he contacted JoAnn Radetic with the State Historic Preservation Office and Melva Fast with the City of Jefferson, about the possibility of bringing the 2013 Missouri Statewide Historic Preservation Conference to Jefferson City. After some discussion of other cities who have expressed interest and the amount of work ahead for the Commission, it was decided not to pursue applying for the Grant. b. Commission Chair Cathy Bordner asked for two volunteers (main and backup) to sit on the Community Advisory Group for the Lafayette Street Interchange Project. Commissioners Mark Schreiber and Bill Case volunteered. They will determine who will attend which meetings. DATES TO REMEMBER The next meeting will be June 10, 2012.
