CALL TO ORDER
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) met Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at 6:30 PM in the Small
Conference Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 East McCarty Street,
Jefferson City, MO. The meeting was called to order by Cathy Bordner, Chairman.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The March 13, 2012 minutes were not available.
Commissioners reviewed minutes from the April 10, 2012 meeting. A motion was made by
Commissioner Bill Case and seconded by Commissioner Art Hernandez to approve the minutes. The
motion carried unanimously without corrections.
COUNCIL ISSUES
Councilman Ralph Bray reported the City Council is in budget prep and considering 20 Bills. The
Council is looking at putting the Fire Sales Tax issue on the August 2012 ballot. He also reminded the
Commission of the Landmark Award ceremony in Council Chambers on May 24, 2012, at 4:00 PM.
CITY ISSUES
Ron Davenport reported on city issues. He had another 106 Review for rehab work at 824 Fairmount
Blvd. The Commission had no comments.
DEMOLITION APPLICATIONS
a. 518 Boonville Rd. Mr. Mike Bates addressed the Commission on this demolition request. He
built and owns the home next door. His plan is to demolish the house at 518 Boonville and
rebuild a home that he and his wife would occupy. He stated that the 518 house is water
damaged and would be too costly to rehabilitate. Commissioner Bill Case made a motion to

b. 1410 Swifts Hwy. This property is part of a number of sites being acquired by Helias Catholic
High School for a possible sports complex sometime in the future. Commissioner Art
Hernandez made a motion to recommend approval of the demolition of the house at 1410
Swifts Hwy. Commissioner Bill Case seconded. The motion was approved unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
a. Landmark Awards and Ceremony. Commission Chair Bordner reminded the Commission that
the award ceremony will be held on May 24, 2012 in Council Chambers. The winners have
been made public and the Commission was free to discuss them.
b. Update on National Register Nomination for the Moreau Heights Neighborhood. Both Janice
McMillian and Ron Davenport reported that the grant has been approved. The next step is to
find a consultant. Commissioner Art Hernandez volunteered to be the Commission's
representative on the RFQ committee.
c. Historic Overlay District. Janice McMillian reported that there are two issues with the
Commission's previous recommendations: (1) a change in the boundaries was suggested and
(2) the issue of demolition needed to be reconsidered. It was decided that Ms. McMillian
would get copies of the new draft language to the Commissioners for consideration at the June
121 2012 meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
a. Commissioner Ed Meyers reported that he contacted JoAnn Radetic with the State Historic
Preservation Office and Melva Fast with the City of Jefferson, about the possibility of bringing
the 2013 Missouri Statewide Historic Preservation Conference to Jefferson City. After some
discussion of other cities who have expressed interest and the amount of work ahead for the
Commission, it was decided not to pursue applying for the Grant.
b. Commission Chair Cathy Bordner asked for two volunteers (main and backup) to sit on the
Community Advisory Group for the Lafayette Street Interchange Project. Commissioners Mark
Schreiber and Bill Case volunteered. They will determine who will attend which meetings.
DATES TO REMEMBER
The next meeting will be June 10, 2012.
