Nine persons attended as follows: BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT (6) STAFF PRESENT (3) Mr. Chris Ricks (Chair) Chief Roger Schroeder Curtis Creagh (Secretary) Lt. Deric J. Heislen Mr. Ray Bledsoe Human Resources Specialist, Sarah Trittler Mr. Donald Cline (Vice Chair) Mr. George Minze Ms. Kelly Dillon BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT (1) Ms. Lisa Turner Following greetings and introductions roll call was taken, noting two board members not present: Turner and Bledsoe. Bledsoe arrived after roll call. Approval of July 2, 2012 Minutes It was moved by Cline and seconded by Minze that the minutes for the July 2, 2012 meeting be approved. The motion carried. Old Business Hiring Update – Lt. Heislen presented a summary update to inform the board as follows: 1) Persons interviewed overwhelmingly came from Columbia and Jefferson City areas; 2) JCPD anticipates hiring for three positions, since the budge seemed better with the $59k restored to the overtime expense item. Update on JCPD Appreciation Day – This day of recognition is scheduled for Tuesday, September 12, 2012, beginning at 8:30a with preparing charcoals for the grill. To reiterate, Kelly Dillon is continuing to coordinate activities and firm up the details for the day, while encouraging Board members to make sure they are present; this being our expressed way of showing appreciation to members of the police department. Lunch will be served from 11:00a to 1:30p; at which time clean-up will begin. We anticipate service to 125 employees for this event. Care packages for deployed officers – Packages are ready; Dillon is waiting for officers to become settled in their new locations. A package will be sent to Officer Keith Porter; a letter, prepared by Chris Ricks on behalf of the Board, will be sent to Lt. Eric Wilde. The Board anticipates that each Board member will also sign the letter. Other Business JCPPB’s presentation at City Council – Chief Schroeder offered appreciative comments in his closing remarks for the Board’s desire and willingness to present to the Council. Such action was seen as a good example for other boards to ensure the City Council is kept aware of not only, what each board does, but also, who comprises its membership. Monthly Crime Reports – Creagh noted that in recent past meetings (May or June meeting) the Board had requested distribution of these reports to each Board member. To date, it had not happened. The next meeting date is Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 12noon. No other business was discussed. The meeting was adjourned at 12:40pm. Respectfully, Curtis E. Creagh
