Police Personnel Board
Minutes—April 4, 2013
The meeting was called to order at 12:03 noon.
Eleven persons attended as follows:

Following greetings, roll call was taken with.
Approval of March 7, 2013 Minutes
It was moved by Bledsoe and seconded by Minze that the minutes for March 7th be approved. The motion
carried unanimously.
Old Business
Update on hiring – Lt. Heislen updated the board that the department has continued to give personalized
attention to the process by contacting and staying connected with current applicants to keep them
informed about new challenges brought on by the City’s budget concerns. Additionally, he personally
has pursued new venues to identify other potential candidates as cited in March’s minutes.
Further, in describing some attributes of current candidates, Lt. Heislen reported: 1) two of seven current
applicants have academy training, and 2) those that live and/or had expressed interest in the Columbia
area police system, no longer desire to pursue employment with that system.
The severity of the budget situation accounts for 7-8 positions being vacate (includes the military
positions). The department anticipates losing 4-5 positions to the early retirement incentive between
April and May.
New Business
Employee Appreciation Day – With the success of last year’s event, the Board agreed to move forward
with plans to again show our appreciation for the Police Department. We discussed various dates to be
agreed upon at a later time. Dillon agreed to facilitate the event as she did before.
Other Business
None
Next meeting date – We will skip the month of May for meeting. Also, to better accommodate some
board members we will move the June meeting to the following week from our usual date. So, the next
meeting is Thursday, June 13, 2013.
It was moved by Dillon and seconded by Bledsoe for adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at
12:24pm.
