Nine persons attended as follows: BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT (5) STAFF PRESENT (4) Ms. Kelly Dillon (Chair) Chief Roger Schroeder Ms. Lisa Turner (Secretary) Mr. Jeremy Cover (Assoc. City Counselor) Mr. Rick Derks Lt. Deric Heislen Mr. Curtis Creagh Ms. Gail Strope, Director of Human Resources Mr. George Minze BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT (1) Mr. Ray Bledsoe Following greetings, roll call was taken. Approval of April 3, 2014 minutes It was moved by Derks and seconded by Minze that the minutes for the April 3rd meeting be approved. The motion was carried unanimously. Old Business Probationary period – Jeremy Cover announced that the proposed changes to the articles of the city ordinance were approved by the City Council. Hiring Update – Chief Schroeder announced that two communication positions were filled as of April 14th, 2014. Three newly hired police officers will attend LETI academy in Columbia starting on May 5, 2014. The other two newly hired police officers will begin employment May 5, 2014. New Business Police Personnel Board Vacancy – Currently we have one vacancy on the personnel board. Gail Strope indicated that all city boards have few applicants for the number of positions to be filled and some boards have unfilled vacancies. Ms. Dillon stated that former Board Chair Chris Ricks had expressed interest in filling the remainder of the vacant term to assist the board in this transition period if needed. Dillon spoke with City Administrator Steven Crowell who indicated the council would consider Ricks’ application when making a determination to fill the position. More information on this will be available at the next Board meeting in July, 2014. Dillon encouraged all board members to spread the word with the community that all boards are looking for applicants. Police Officer Testing Dates- Chief Schroeder suggests waiting until late summer or early fall to run next process for more police officers. This will be discussed further during the July, 2014 Board meeting Other Business Appreciation Day- Mr. Derks announced that he will be distributing a list to the Board for calling on donations and signing up for duties. The date for this event will be in September and will be discussed again at or before the next meeting. Next meeting date –The next meeting is Thursday, July 3rd, 2014. It was moved by Ms. Dillon and seconded by Mr. Creagh for adjournment. No other business was discussed. The meeting was adjourned at 12:29 pm. Respectfully, Lisa Turner
