A quorum was present at this tim e. 1.Introductions No form al introductions were made. 2. Acceptance of the Novem ber 6, 2008 meeting minutes A m otion was m ade by Mr. W ashburn, seconded by Mr. Fitzwater to accept the Novem ber 6, 2008 meeting m inutes. All in favor, minutes approved 3.New Business 1. Request to rem ove parking on a portion of the 700 block of Adam s street near 712 Adam s Street. (Requestor: Duskey Graham) Mr. Sm ith gave a staff report noting this area is an established neighborhood. The street is approxim ately 20 feet wide which makes it difficult to turn in or out of the alley way with vehicles parked on the street. Staff does not support removal of all the parking on one side, but possibly m ove parking to opposite side of current parking. After a lengthy discussion am ong m em bers of the com m ission a m otion was m ade by M r. Prather to rem ove parking from Ashley Street to within 70 feet of Tanner W ay, seconded by Mr. W ashburn. All in favor, motion passes. Transportation & Traffic Commission December 4, 2008 Page 2 2.Request to allow parking on one side of Chestnut Street between Atchison and Dunklin. (Requestor: Ryan Jackson) Mr. Sm ith gave a staff report. He let the com m ission know that Mr. Jackson appeared at a city council m eeting proposing this request. T he street is approxim ately 20 feet wide and has a high volum e of pedestrians due to Lincoln University. Mr. Sm ith gave a little history of the street and com m ented that city staff is currently working with Lincoln University staff. It is staff’s recom m endation at this tim e to deny the request. M s. G assner spok e on behalf of Lincoln University and is in support of staff’s recom m endation. W ith little discussion am ong the com m ission mem bers a m otion was m ade to approve the request by Mr. Fitzwater, seconded by Mr. Prather to allow parking on one side of Chestnut. All opposed, m otion failed. 4.Old Business There was no old business to discuss at this tim e. 5.Other Business 1. Discuss option of m oving the T ransportation & Traffic Commission m eetings to W ednesday mornings. (Chairman Ahlers) T he com m ission discussed the possibility of changing the m eeting to the second W ednesday after the first City Council m eeting instead of Thursday. A new calendar was presented to the com m ission for the Decem ber m eeting for further discussion. 2. Adoption of the 2009 Transportation & Traffic C om m ission m eeting calendar. A m otion was m ade by Mr. W ashburn to move the day of the meeting as presented in the m eeting packet to the second W ednesday following the first City Council meeting, seconded by Mr. Prather. All in favor, the 2009 m eeting calendar was approved. 6. Adjournment W ith no other business, a m otion to adjourn was m ade by M r. Prather, seconded by M r.
