HomeMy Public PortalAbout20100616minutesUSS JEFFERSON CITY SUBMARINE COMMITTEE JUNE 16, 2010 Call to Order; At 5:20 PM the meeting was called to order by George Bruss, Chairman. Roll Call; In attendance are George Bruss, Chairman, Ed Irwin, outgoing Vice Chairman, John O'Connell, Secretary, Mike Ryno, Steve Schlueter, City Finance Director and Marti Thruston, new member and Melody Green, new old member. Members were asked to introduce themselves to the new members. Motion; Members were presented copies of the March 2, 2010 meeting for review and approval. It was noted that a spelling correction was needed for new member Marti Thruston and a address correction was needed for Dick Kauffman, from Holts Summit to St. Martins. Those corrections were noted by the Secretary. A motion to accept the amended meeting notes was made by Ed Irwin and seconded by Melody Green. Financial Report; Steve Schlueter advised the committee that the BBQ held May 8th at the Schulte's Parking lot by the Freedom Foundation brought in a profit of $1364.00. This Foundation is headed by Hal Dulle of the Marine Corp League. Mr. Schlueter suggested that the committee consider having a yearly event of this type to generate additional funding for the Submarine trust fund. Based on the current expenditures the trust fund will not last through the life of the Boat if the committee continues to have yearly crew visits as they have in the past. Also Mr. Schlueter noted that Hal Dulle thanked the members of the committee for their participation and help staffing the BBQ event. Discussion of the upcoming USS Jefferson City Submarine crew visit; George Bruss indicated that his information was showing the visit to be tentative for October 14th through October19th. He also indicated that the Elks Club would like to entertain the crew for dinner on Thursday evening and Mike Ryno's Navy Club would sponsor the crew for dinner on the 18th at the American Legion. George was also trying to schedule the TJC Submarine Base meeting for Saturday the 19th and invite the crew to meet the group. Melody stated that the captain indicated that he would like to coordinate the crew visit over the same time US Congressman Ike Skelton's anticipated visit to the district on the 19th and 20th of October. Melody went on to say that she was hopeful that she could convince the Captain to limit the number of crew members to about four due to the concerns of lodging, transportation and expenses. Steve Schlueter indicated that he would like to have the crew attend the City Council meeting that would be on Monday evening the 18th. Discussion of finding a replacement on the Board for Ed Irwin; Steve Schlueter stated the name of the replacement had already been determined by the Mayor, John Landwehr. He would like to see a Mr. Mark Aulbur added to the Committee. Mr. Aulbur's son is an eight year veteran on board the USS New Hampshire. Mr. Aulbur is a resident of Jefferson City. Old Business; None New Business; The Committee discussed having a follow up meeting in July to continue planning for the Crew visit. It was decided that July 14th at 5:15 would be a good date for the next meeting. George Bruss indicated that his term would be expiring next year at this time. His intent is to leave the Committee at that time but would continue to be available to help during crew visits as needed. Steve Schlueter stated that the next meeting would also be a good time to discuss a replacement for the Vice Chairman position. Adjournment; At 5:50 PM Melody Green made a motion to adjourn and that motion was seconded by Marti Thruston and the motion was carried by the Committee.
