They both accepted the challenge. Melody stated that she had been in contact with the Captain and he has tentatively set the dates for the crew visit as October 14th through October 19th. Melody said that the Captain would like to bring six or seven crew members with him. She has done a quick check of air fares for that time period and it looks like about $300.00 round trip per person. Melody has firmed up arrangements for Thursday evening dinner at the Elks Lodge. She is working on tours and lunch for Friday and has commitment for dinner at the American Legion sponsored by Navy Club Ship #5. George Bruss has invited the crew to attend the TJC Base Submarine Veterans meeting which will be held at the American Legion Hall at 2:00PM Saturday afternoon. Saturday evening is open for dinner, Melody was hopeful that a local business or bank would sponsor a donation for the crews dinner at a local restaurant. Also there was some discussion about a fund raiser BBQ as an option for Saturday evening dinner. George Bruss indicated that he would check with Hal Dulle and discuss the possibility of a BBQ fund raiser while the crew is here or if it would be more practical to try and schedule one in the spring. Sunday, Melody would like to take the Captain to a Rams football game in St. Louis. It just so happens they are playing San Diego on October 17th. The rest of the crew may enjoy a visit to Herman, MO during the Oktoberfest. Marti Thruston offered to be a sober chauffer. Melody indicated she would like to schedule a visit to the Capital and a tour of the Capital Dome on Monday also she would like to include a tour of the Unilever Plant for the crew. Also, Monday evening is the City Council Meeting and they would like to have the crew stop by so they can meet and greet. Monday evening is open for dinner but Melody thought she could talk to Mike Bates of the Chamber to see if they or one of their members would like to sponsor the crew for Monday evening dinner. George Bruss said he would talk to Danny Farmer who is the manager of Bone's restaurant to see if he could do a dinner at his location. The discussion moved to housing for the crew during the visit. George Bruss said he could house two and that Dick Kauffman would take one person. Marti indicated she could house two and Melody said that the Captain would stay at her home.
