HomeMy Public PortalAbout20110927minutesUSS JEFFERSON CITY SUBMARINE COMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 27, 2011 MINUTES Call to Order: At 5:15 PM the meeting was called to order by the Chairperson Melody Green. Roll Call: Roll call was taken by the Secretary, John O'Connell. Those present were Chairperson, Melody Green, Vice-Chairman, Mike Ryno, Secretary , John O'Connell, Crew Visit Coordinator, Marti Thruston, Mark Aulbur, and City Finance Director, Steve Schlueter. Approval of September 7, 2011 Minutes: After review of the previous meeting minutes Marti Thruston made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Mark Aulbur seconded the motion and the motion was carried by the Committee. Discuss pricing of the USS Jefferson City Reminder Bands: Melody Green said that she intends to discuss with the Captain's wife the idea that the proceeds from the sale of the, Reminder Bands, would all go back to the women's auxiliary for the benefit of the Christmas gifts for the crew members. Melody made a motion that we charge $5.00 each for the bands which would net a profit of $3.00 each for those sold. That motion was seconded by Marti Thruston and the motion was carried by the Committee. BBQ fund raiser Spring of 2012: Melody stated that she had spoke with Hal Dulle concerning the possibility of a Spring BBQ. Mr. Dulle indicated his right hand man, Steve Bauer, was having health issues and the BBQ fund raiser would have to be put on hold. Old Business: Steve Schlueter presented additional information as to the expenses and income of the trust fund for the fiscal year 2011, as was requested after the last meeting. New Business: Marti Thruston requested email contact information from Melody Green for the Captain so as to open dialogue about the next crew visit. Melody indicated that the person to contact would be the Chief of the Boat (COB) or the Yeoman, and that she would get that information for Marti. Melody indicated that the Captain had requested that she submit an article that could be put in the Submarine's Newsletter. That way the crew and families could stay up to date on what is happening in Jefferson City as it might pertain to the Ship. Melody also suggested that she might speak to Hal Dulle about presenting information on his weekly radio talk show about the Reminder Bands and the purpose of the fund raiser to support the crew at Christmas time. She thought that if she could make a presentation during the October 8th radio program and indicate were the Reminder Bands could be purchased it might help boost the sales. Also she suggested the Reminder Bands could possibly be sold at the American Legion on Friday October 14th and at the Elks on Thursday October 13th. Mike Ryno indicated he would check with the American Legion for the possibility of October 14th and Melody has a contact at the Elk's to get clearance for the sale of the bands at their location on October 13th. Melody also indicated that Sam Bushman from Samuel's Tuxedo said that he would be glad to sell the Reminder Bands at his downtown store location. Marti Thruston said that she would check with the owner of the, Market Place, on West Truman Blvd to see if they would be interested in selling some of the Reminder Bands to their customers. Marti took 10 large, 10 medium, and 10 small bands in anticipation of selling them through the Market Place. Mark Aulbur suggested selling the Reminder Bands during the Veterans Day Parade on November 11th. Possibly setting up a table at Samuel's Tuxedo or Carrie's Hallmark store. Steve Schlueter said that he would collect the cash from those selling the bands and deposit it into the Submarine Trust Fund and then write a check to the Submarine Women's Auxiliary. Next Meeting: Melody indicated that the date and time of the next meeting would be announced at a later time. Adjournment: Melody Green made a motion to adjourn the meeting and that was seconded by Marti Thruston and the motion was carried by the Committee. The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 PM.
