MINUTES
Call to Order: At 5:15 PM the meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Melody Green.
Roll Call: Roll call was taken by the Secretary, John O'Connell. Those present are Chairperson,
Melody Green, Vice Chair, Mike Ryno, Secretary, John O'Connell, Visit Co-coordinator Marti
Thruston, and City Finance Director, Steve Schlueter. Also present was the new Committee
member, Ivan Turner. Mr. Turner was recently approved by the City Council and the Mayor,
Eric Strumph. Mr. Turner is a Navy Veteran and the owner of Air-O Dry a damage restoration
company in Jefferson City.
Approval of September 27, 2011 meeting minutes: Melody Green made a motion to accept the
minutes as presented and that motion was seconded by John O'Connell.
Financial Report: Steve Schlueter presented to the Committee a revised report in a more typical
reader friendly format which had been requested by Melody Green. He also indicated that Hal
Dulle's name has been submitted to the City Council for approval at the next Council meeting.
Mr. Dulle will replace Mark Aulbur, who recently resigned from the Committee.
Report on "Reminder Bands": Marti Thruston had reminder band sales of $25.00 and Melody
Green, sales of $20.00. Those cash funds were given to Steve Schlueter for deposit in the
Submarine fund. He stated that he would forward a check for $45.00 from the fund to the
women's Auxiliary group JCFRG. It also was suggested that while the Submarine crew is here
on their next visit maybe they could have a stand on High St. and sell some additional reminder
bands.
Commander Dickson's Email: Melody circulated an Email sent to her by the Captain, Brien
Dickson acknowledging and thanking the Committee, the Mayor and City Council for the
proclamation, extolling the accomplishments of the officers and crew of The USS Jefferson City
Submarine. This proclamation was presented at the February 29, 2012 meeting of the City
Council.
Melody also had another Email from the ship indicating that a new crew member Yeoman 1st
class, John Gladman would be the Crew visit point person for the upcoming Crew visit to
Jefferson City. This information was given to Marti Thruston.
Melody also presented a pewter cup that had been returned to the Committee from the ship, this
cup showed the date of the Christening of the Ship. Melody asked Steve Schlueter if the original
proclamation and the pewter cup could be placed in the glass display case located in the City
Hall lobby.
Planning for Crew Visit: Chairperson, Melody Green suggested we schedule the next Crew
visit occur in late September or early in October 2012. She also stated that a VIP visit to the
Ship would probably not be possible as the Ship will be going into dry dock for upkeep.
Melody said that the Captain indicated a continued interest in having the crew do some
presentation and teaching at the High School and volunteer community service. Marti Thruston
stated that she would communicate with the Ships Yeoman to set a firm date for the visit.
Discussion of 20th Anniversary of the Commissioning Celebration: There was some back
and forth discussion as to what type of Celebration would be appropriate. Melody would like to
co ordinate the Celebration with the Crew visit. Mike Ryno and Ivan Turner were going to
check out a few locations in and around Jefferson City for an appropriate Banquet Hall or
Meeting facility. Also, there was some discussion as to who might be invited, cost, banquet
providers. Nothing firm was decided upon
Melody also said that a Mr. Bob Peterson, who is a resident of Jefferson City and former crew
member of the USS Jefferson City Submarine, would like to be a part of the preparation and
planning of the visit and Celebration. She went on to say that Mr. Peterson would eventually
like to be a member of the Committee.

New Business: None.
Next Meeting Date: A date for the meeting will be set by Melody when firm dates for the crew
visit are determined.
Adjournment: Marti Thruston made a motion to adjourn and that motion was seconded b y
Mike Ryno. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00PM.
