SEPTEMBER 19, 2012
MINUTES
Call to Order: At 5:15 PM the meeting was called to order by Chairperson Melody Green.
Roll Call: Roll call was taken by Secretary, John O'Connell. Those present are Chairperson,
Melody Green, Vice Chairman, Mike Ryno, Secretary, John O'Connell, Visit Coordinator, Marti
Thruston, Ivan Turner, and Hal Dulle.
Approval of September 12, 2012 meeting minutes: The minutes from the previous meeting
were provided to all present. They were reviewed by all. Hall Dulle made a motion to approve
the meeting minutes as presented, that motion was seconded by Mike Ryno and carried by the
committee.
Planning for the Crew visit October 17th-21st: Marti Thruston presented the committee with
an updated Itinerary. Melody Green indicated that she was contacted by Unilever and firmed up
the tour of the facility for Monday October 21st at 2:00 PM. Also, she is working on contacting
one of the Governor's Mansion docents to hopefully schedule a tour for Friday October 19th at
3:30PM.
Hal Dulle said he would contact the school officials at Lewis & Clark, middle school and
schedule a crew leadership class on Friday October 19th 1:30-2:30PM.
Marti Thruston confirmed that the crew would be working at the Marine's home on Saturday
October 20th and she has the address.
Hal Dulle stated that he would arrange for the crew to have a lunch meeting on Monday October
22nd at the other Rotary Club.
Mike Ryno said that the Navy Club Ship 5 wants to provide a pizza dinner for the Crew on
Monday evening at the American Legion Hall. A possible visit to the VFW was discussed but
put on hold.
Mike Ryno and Ivan Turner talked about contacting the owner of the old time Trolley to see if
there could be a City tour provided on the old Trolley for the crew.
Marti Thruston was going to contact the media to do some coverage of the crew visit and their
activities. Melody Green was going to make contact with the News Tribune to follow the event.
Discuss 20th Anniversary Celebration: Marti Thruston has spoken with Danny Farmer who
has agreed to cater the celebration dinner and has asked that as part of the menu is his famous
pork chops and mashed potatoes.
Hal Dulle said that he would contact Danny Farmer and firm up the menu and discuss a cost per
person.
Marti Thruston said she needs a deposit of $200.00 to complete the contract talks with the
owners of the Capital Ritz. Melody Green stated that she would secure the deposit from the trust
fund. Also, Capital Ritz will provide the cash bar for the event.
Discussion moved to the topic of the invitations. Marti Thruston presented the group with a draft
of an invitation. Some discussion was entertained about including a back ground water mark of
the ship's emblem or some other appropriate background. It was decided that the invitations
should go out as soon as possible to allow for invitees to respond and for the planning of the
caterer's number and the Capital Ritz count.
The list of invitees was discussed and various proposals were presented. Marti and Melody were
to finalize a list for formal invitations and have that ready by the next meeting. It also was
decided that RSVP should be returned by October 11th at the latest.
Ivan Turner suggested that he could contact JCTV and ask them to run a promo of the
celebration invitation.
Melody was going to contact the newspaper to run an add inviting the public to the celebration
event. The add would run September 30th, October 3 and October 7. Also Melody will be on
the radio to promote the event on September 29th and October 6th, KWOS on the Air with Hal
Dulle. She additionally is going to contact Warren Krech of KWOS and ask him to do a periodic
promo of the event.

Next Meeting Date: It was decided that a follow up meeting would be scheduled on Tuesday
September 25th at 5:15PM at City Hall.
Adjournment: Melody Green asked for a motion to adjourn. Hal Dulle made the motion and it
was seconded by John O'Connell. The meeting was adjourned at 6:05 PM.
