HomeMy Public PortalAbout19740831SCMeeting45 Savannah Beach, Georgia August 31, 1974 A Special Meeting of City Council was called for 9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 1974, by Councilmen Mr. John Wylly, Mr. Joseph Agnew, Mr. Ernest Hosti, and Mr. James Bond for the purpose of accepting the resignation of City Attorney Lance Smith and naming a new. City Attorney and Judge of Savannah Beach Recorder's Court to replace him. A quorum consisting of Councilmen John Wylly, Joseph Agnew, Ernest Hosti and James Bond were present at the meeting which was presided over by Mayor Michael J. Counihan. The meeting was formally opened by Mayor Counihan who then re- quested the Clerk to read the letter of resignation which had been submitted by Mr. Lance Smith, as follows: LETTER OF RESIGNATION FROM MR. LANCE SMITH Following the reading of the letter: Councilman Hosti moved that the resignation of Mr. Smith be ac- cepted but that insofar as the indebtedness of the City to Mr. Smith stated in the letter was concerned, that this request on the part of Mr. Smith be subject to further negotiations .and :tpending the auditing of the records received from Mr. Smith by the new City Attorney; also finally subject to the approval of City Council. This motion was seconded by Councilman Jim Bond and unanimously carried. Councilman John Wylly then moved that Mr. William H. Pinson, Jr. of the law firm of Miller, Beckman and Simpson be appointed City Attorney and Judge of Recorder's Court of the City of Savannah Beach. The motion was seconded by Councilman Agnew and unanimously carried. Mayor Counihan announced that the necessary legislation enabling all of the councilmen to sign warrants would be enacted at the next Council Meeting. There being no further business the Meeting was adjourned to the next regular or Special Called Meeting. I respectfully submit the resignation of the law firm of Smith and Portman as City Attorneys for the City of Savannah Beach, effective Friday, August 30th, 1974. I feel that this would be a desirable time for such action since the Erosion Control Project is beyond the critical point. I would like to express my appreciation to the Mayor and Council along with all parties who have been involved in this project. The Erosion Control Project in my estimation is the single, most important project in the history of the City of Savannah Beach. I would further respectfully advise Council that it is the desire of this law firm to cooperate fully with the new law firm that will represent the City. I further respectfully request that City Council officially acknowledge that the City of Savannah Beach is indebted to this law firm in the amount of $20,457.52, the same to be accomplished through a resolution adopted in Open Council. In conclusion, may I send this firm's best wishes on the satisfactory comple- tion of the Erosion Control Project and for the City Government in general.
