Tree Board
9 a.m. Feb. 20, 2019
Town Hall Annex Board Meeting Room, 105 E. Corbin St.
Present: Vice Chair Frances Harris, Casey Collins, Tim Logue, Phyllis Simon, Bryan Stuart, Liz Waters and
Greg Yavelak (ex officio)
Absent: Chair Andrea Lewis and Phyllis Simon
Staff: Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood
1. Call to order, roll call, and confirmation of quorum
Vice Chair Frances Harris called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Public Space Manager Stephanie Trueblood called
the roll and confirmed the presence of a quorum.
2. Agenda changes and approval
There were no changes or adjustments.
3. Minutes review and approval
Minutes from regular meeting on Jan. 16, 2019.
Motion: Board member Casey Collins moved to approve the minutes as presented. Board member Tim
Logue seconded.
Vote: Unanimous
Changes: None
4. Discussion for Earth Evening participation April 26
The board discussed repeating the interactive display that members set up last year. Collins, Harris and Member
Liz Waters volunteered to be present to help with the display.
5. Discussion of recommendation to remove shrubs and small trees at 105 E. Corbin St.
Trueblood explained the neighbor bordering the Town Hall Annex on the eastern property line would like the
town to install a privacy fence. Therefore, 160 feet of shrubs and small trees will need to be removed before the
fence installation. The large tree roughly 160 feet down the property line will remain.
Motion: Waters moved to approve the removal of shrubs and plants as presented. Logue seconded.
Vote: Unanimous

6. Updates
A. Hillsborough Garden Club — Harris reported the theme is “Beyond the Garden Gate” for this year’s garden
tour, which will take place May 4.
B. Bee City Subcommittee — No report.

C. Staff updates
• Two volunteer opportunities are coming up:
o 9 a.m. to noon March 16 — Removing trash along the stream for a future pedestrian connection
across from where Benton Street intersects with Bellevue Street.
o 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 6 — Planting extension of the rain garden at Cates Creek Park with the Tree
Board.
• The Town of Hillsborough has been recertified as a Tree City USA, and Trueblood expects notification that
recertification as a Bee City USA is also complete. There was discussion of placing Tree City USA and Bee
City USA signs south of the bridge into downtown.
• There was interest in looking at trees and shrubs in the right of way this spring to determine what needs
to be removed.
