HomeMy Public PortalAbout2022.071 (04-19-22) RESOLUTION NO. 2022.071 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD AUTHORIZING THE RELEASE OF A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR A NEW SURVEILLANCE CAMERA SYSTEM COVERING MAJOR STREET INTERSECTIONS THAT FEEDS TO CENTURY STATION AND CITY HALL WHEREAS, the City owns a camera system that feeds wirelessly to Century station that was implemented 13 years ago and the most recent contract to maintain the system expired in 2018; and WHEREAS, the City worked collaboratively with the Lynwood Unified School District (LUSD) and the Sheriff's department on the wireless radio network infrastructure for about 30 cameras in the City; and WHEREAS, according to Lieutenant Gomez, the camera system was a useful tool to monitor activity in the City but is now mostly non-operational; and WHEREAS, on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, staff collaborated with the LUSD and the Sheriff's Department to discuss options to upgrade the aging camera system and bring it back to an operational state; and WHEREAS, the LUSD discussed looking at a new camera system and may possibly abandon the old camera system but would welcome the City to work on any wireless equipment on their property with an agreed upon memorandum of - understanding, but if they do abandon their network, the City's wireless connections will be negatively affected; and WHEREAS, the purpose of this item is to release an RFP for a brand new surveillance camera system and upon completion select the most qualified vendor that will be presented to Council for approval; and WHEREAS, staff will consider the best approach to repair and upgrade the camera system in conjunction with professionals in the industry and in light of the recent . meetings with representatives from LUSD and Century Station, staff will focus on minimizing complications of a shared network and work independently or with Century Station only. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AND DETERMINE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Lynwood hereby finds and declares that the foregoing recitals are true and correct, and incorporates them herein as findings and as a substantive part of this Resolution Sections 2. That the City Council of the City of Lynwood authorizes the release of an RFP for a new surveillance camera system. Section 3. This Resolution shall go into effect immediately upon its adoption. Sections 4. The City Clerk shall certify as to the adoption of this Resolution. PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 19th day of April, 2022. Jorg- r .
