HomeMy Public PortalAboutMinutes - 4/26/2004 The Wellsburg City Council met in special session April 26, 2004 with Mayor Fox presiding and Councilmen Nielsen, Meints, Van Heiden and James present. Absent Lindaman.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the status of the Wellsburg Library Building project.
Present were the following Library Board Directors: Kathy Akkerman, Sharon Harms, Lillian Eiten, Sheryl Harms and Greg Riebkes. Also present were Diane Haupt, Library Director and
Joyce Meyeraan, Library Employee, members of the Ostrfriesen Heritage Society and concerned citizens.
Richie Schmidt presented information on the grant writing process. The Carver grant would only cover renovations to the building. This grant requires a 50% match.
Rick Gersema presented information on the soundness of the former Rasmussen Building. He also addressed asbestos and mold concerns. The asbestos flooring has been removed properly
and the mold problem could be solved by the removal of the affected sheet rock. He also addressed roofing issues.
Glenda Okones and Marlys Breneman addressed the Library Board asking their reasoning behind declining the offer of the former Rasmussen Building.
