HomeMy Public PortalAbout20170615DirectorsReport.docxDirectors Report, June 15, 2017 Memberships: We’re back above 400 members, with 405 total. We sent out 36 renewal letters for the memberships expiring in June. We also produce a report for Bill each month that tracks renewals. He may want to talk more about that. Just a quick snapshot of the 50 people who bought or renewed their memberships since May 1: Two stars, one supporting role, 16 family memberships, 6 individual and 25 individual senior members, by far our most popular category. Performance Results: We had another profitable month in May, bringing in a little more than $6,000 net on $11,405 after tax in ticket sales. And that’s not counting the results from the two Poperazzi shows here at the Theater as part of the Wine Festival. We netted almost $2,000 with those two shows, thanks to Keith, since he footed the bill for the band. And it was an incredible variety of events. Our most profitable was the four-day showing of Gifted, which netted $2,980 for the Theater. We paid the studio $1,310 to license it. Other big shows, included the two-day performance of Pride & Prejudice, which netted us $1,840, and Songs of the Silver Screen, Julie Wilde’s music school recital which netted is $1,130. The Thursday theme movies are picking up. We netted $285 for MASH selling 69 tickets. Breakfast at Tiffany’s netted $100. Well on our way to a big June, as well. Started off with Spec Hosti & Friends, a product of our programming committee. We netted $3,700 on that one. Virginia may talk more about it and about the return of Frydee Feeeyoud in July. Other May notables: I hosted the Maritime Academy for a live streaming of GPB’s program about Gray’s reef, which was live streamed to 30,000 kids in school rooms across the state. Nothing cuter than 175 adorable kids in blue polo shirts marching down Butler Avenue and into the Theater. I also hosted 70 customer service representatives on Tybee, who were on a tour organized by the Tybee Tourism Council They came and listened to me talk about the Theater, took monthly calendars and rack cards back to their businesses. Also began our Family Friendly Movies series the last week in May with Moana, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The Jungle Book. We hosted 85 kids and counselors from the Fresh Air Home yesterday for a screening of A Dog’s Purpose. We started our Gray’s Reef Tuesdays series, with a special twist, George Evans playing thee Steinway as guests enter. He will play the next two Tuesdays, but we’re looking for someone else who would like to play for three weeks in July. Upcoming: This weekend, we’re presenting another Silent Cinema Concert. Bringing in an expert in silent movie music. Rodney Sauer, he is playing the Steinway, and we have a chamber ensemble from the Savannah Philharmonic playing along. Buster Keaton’s The General. Two performances at 3 and 8. Would really encourage you to attend. We have a Georgia Council for the Arts grant to help pay for it. We’re bringing in about 30 seniors from Summer Breeze Senior Living. It’s part of the grant application that we serve an underserved community. This was an incredible challenge to put together, and will require me to write a lengthy report detailing everything. And in the end, we will probably lose money, but it’s worth it. Elevates the Theater as a venue that does very special things. Article in Do and Connect. Going on TV tomorrow morning with Rodney. Showing three days of Baywatch. Won’t do as well as Gifted because it’s a bad movie, rated R, so a limited audience. But we’ve already sold 63 advance tickets. Finally showing Slayer, that 1978 art house horror movie filmed on Tybee. The filmmakers are in from England to do a location documentary to put in the released DVD of the movie. The Theater, in all its decrepit glory, figures prominently in the movie. And July is full of great events and will be a big big month for us. Starting off with A Southern Rock tribute, showing Jaws again, Fabulous Equinox has rented the Theater for a July Fourth concert and horn parade to the beach to watch the fireworks. We also have two sure sellouts, Randall Bramblett on the 14th and Tony Arata on the 21st. And, of course, the return of Frydee Feeyoud. Happy to order tickets for anyone who wants them.
