HomeMy Public PortalAboutASAB Minutes 1993-05-26 26 May 1993 The meeting of the Animal Control Advisory Board was called to order by Dr. Kirksey, the chairman, at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 26 , 1993 . All members of the board were present as well as the mayor and various citizens. Officer Means joined the meeting toward the conclusion. Part of the business of the day involved a citizen's concern about Officer Means and the police department. Ms. Sharon Smyth requested the board recommend to the council that the animal ordinance regarding the number of days an animal is held be changed so that holidays and weekends not be counted as time held against the animal . This citizen felt her cat may have been destroyed because of her inability to get to the shelter, and her animal was not tagged. Further investigation by Chief Childress indicated that the police procedures for inquiries by citizens regarding missing animals needed to be revised and standardized. She assured the board that this was already in the process of being revised and updated. The consensus of the board was to ask the council to revise the holding time portion of the ordinance to exclude holidays and weekends. There was an informal discussion of the shelter plans. Again the consensus of the board was that Richland Hills should build its own shelter on city property that was accessible to the citizens. This suggestion was to be presented to the city manager and council . Officer Means presented his VCR tour of another animal facility. The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Ann Tucker, Secretary
