HomeMy Public PortalAboutORD15337 BILL NO. 2014-81 SPONSORED BY COUNCILMAN Henry ORDINANCE NO. /5-35 7 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21 (NUISANCES) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, PERTAINING TO THE DATE TAX BILLS ARE SUBMITTED TO THE COUNTY COLLECTOR. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 21 (Nuisances) Section 24 (Removal by City) is amended as follows: Sec. 21-24. Removal by city. If the provisions of this article are not complied with, the chief of police, or other official designated by the mayor. shall give a hearing after ten (10) days' notice thereof. either personally or by United States mail to the owner. or his or her agent, or by posting such notice on the premises. Following the hearing, the Director of Planning and Protective Services or other designated official may declare the weeds to be a nuisance and order the same to be abated within five (5) days. In the event that the weeds are not cut down and removed within five (5) days, the Director of Planning and Protective Services or other designated official shall have the weeds cut down and removed and shall certify the cost of same to the city clerk. The city clerk shall cause a special tax bill therefor against the property to be prepared and to be collected by the collector, with other taxes assessed against the property. The tax bill from the date of its issuance shall be a lien on the property until paid and shall be prima facie evidence of the recitals therein and of its validity and no more clerical error or informality in the same, or in the proceedings leading up to the issuance, shall be a defense thereto. Each special tax bill shall be issued by the city clerk and delivered to the collector on or before the first day of June of each year or at a date established by the County Collector for such bills. Such bills if not paid when due shall bear interest at the rate of eight(8)percent per annum. (Code 1977, §24-9;Ord.No. 13301, 11-5-2001) Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and approval.
