Riverfront (Electric) Park Closed during Patriotic Picnic
Plainfield, IL—Due to ongoing construction on the NICOR Gas Pipeline through
Plainfield, the Riverfront (Electric) Park (24321 W. Lockport Street) will be closed
during the Patriotic Picnic on July 3rd, 2017. The Picnic and associated Fireworks Show
begins at 6:00 pm on July 3rd, with the fireworks closing the event at approximately 9:15
pm.
NICOR Gas and Michels Corporation have advised the Village that multiple hazards
will exist on the property making it unsafe to use as a viewing location for the fireworks
show. In years past, people have parked and watched the fireworks show from this
location. However, this year, barricades and fencing will be in place advising the park
and the bike path running through it will be closed to everyone not associated with the
construction project.
The Plainfield Police Department asks everyone to avoid Electric Park and choose a
safer location to watch the Fireworks. Suggested viewing locations are Plainfield
Central High School and Saint Mary's Immaculate Church.
Any questions regarding Electric Park or the Patriotic Picnic may be directed to
Commander Ken Ruggles at 815-267-7211 or the Plainfield Park District at 815-436-8812.
Have a safe and happy Independence Day!
