Appropriation Ordinance No. 43-1985, An Ordinance to Appropriate within the General Fund, Police bepartrnent. I would lime to recc=nd passage of this Appropriation Ordinance to replenish the overtime account within the 1985 Police Department budget in the amount of 5,747.00. This is the cost of overtime above and beyond the normal police operation to cover the 1985 ISHAA Sectional and Regional highschool boy's basketball tournaments. At the time the 1985 overtime budget of the Police Department was set, the anticipated cost did not include an allowance for the Regional and Sectional tournaments. Chief Nimitz originally requested a 60,000.00 overtime account. During budget hearings, Council shifted 15,000.00 of this to longevity to partially :Fund the longevity to it's maximum needs based on the new longevity pay, leaving the 1985 overtime account at 45,000.00. It is anticipated that the entire 45,000.00 will be needed to cover normal police operations. This appropriation is from the fund balance of the general fund which is sufficient to absorb this appropriation. The 1985 ISBPA boys backetball Regional tournament brought many dollars into the cmm unity through the expenditures of lodging, meals and entertaiment. Although this money does not directly come to the City, it is money that has been spent in this cmymnity and will in turn be spent several times over, benefiting all citizens of the cmmunity.
