Tybee Island, Georgia
June 7, 1978
A special called meeting of the Tybee Island City Council was
held at City Hall on Wednesday, June 7, 1978 at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of
discussing a proposed contract with the Department of Natural Resources for
the construction of the 16th Street public safety /bathhouse complex. Mayor
M. J. Counihan presided and the following members of Council were present:
William C. Fleetwood, John J. Owen, Karen Losey, Jerome W. Bettencourt and
Nick C. Alexander. Also present were the City Administrator, Danny C. Johnson
and the City Attorney, Lance Smith.
The City Attorney informed Council that he had studied the
proposed contract and listed several points that he felt should be clarified
by the Department of Natural Resources prior to the signing. He stated
that the contract provided for acceptance of a grant in the amount of
$125,000.00 or 50% of the cost of constructing a bathhouse, restrooms, first
aid station and lifeguard station, whichever is the lesser amount.
After a lengthy discussion Councilman Fleetwood moved that the
Mayor be authorized to sign the contract, subject to the City Attorney's
clarification of the points he had raised. Councilman Owen seconded the
motion and it was carried unanimously. The Resolution read as follows:
