Following greetings, the roll call was taken. Eight members present as follows: Board Members Present (5): Kelly Dillon (Chair), Rick Derks (Vice-Chair), George Minze, Bill Burton, Ray Bledsoe Board Members absent (1): Lisa Turner Staff Present (4): Chief Roger Schroeder, Lt. Jeff Stiefermann, Jeremy Cover, Assoc. City Counselor, Sarah Trittler, Human Resources Specialist Approval of October 6, 2014 minutes was moved by Minze and seconded by Burton. The motion carried unanimously. Old Business Hiring Update – Lt. Stiefermann announced the background checks and interviews have been completed for police officer and communications positions. Six (6) offers for police officer have been extended and accepted. Four are post certified, one is a communications officer. Pending completion of final processing they will begin field training. One communication officer has been hired as well. It was noted that from this most recent test we are getting less applicants, but the result seems to be a higher quality of candidates. Chief Schroeder indicated the six new officers represented a group that would help us maintain our diversity. Consideration for test planning in early 2015 should begin at the December meeting. JCPD Employee Appreciation Day – Derks noted that the event seemed to be a success based on the number of positive comments received. He suggested probably half of the department was in attendance and the remaining group had plenty of leftovers available. Derks advised that he will contact the News Tribune regarding an ad to thank the members of the community that donated to the event. He also shared a thank you letter to be mailed to Ria’s Restaurant for their ‘over the top’ effort in providing for the event. Chief Schroeder expressed his appreciation for the Board’s effort in hosting the event and noted it is very much appreciated by the Department. Signatory Authority for Bank Account – Dillon advised that the authorized signers for the First Financial bank account were changed to Dillon and Derks as approved by the Board at the October meeting. Other Business Burton asked about the Departments preparation in lieu of the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri. Chief Schroeder noted that every day the Department exhibits preparation by practicing community involvement, extending partnerships, and ensuring that our Department is a caring organization that treats people right. Dillon reported that Wesley Dickman has volunteered to fill the vacant Board position. Hi approval will be proposed to the City Council at next month’s meeting. Next Meeting Date – Due to conflicts the next meeting will be December 11, 2014. It was moved by Derks and seconded by Kelly for adjournment. The meeting was adjourned at 12:37 pm.
