HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 754ORDINANCE NO. 754 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ESTABLISHING THE TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX RATE (BEAUMONT MUNICIPAL CODE; CHAPTER 3.28) WHEREAS, Beaumont municipal Code Section 3.28.030 presently authorizes the amount of 5% transient occupancy tax for the occupancy of a hotel room within the City of Beaumont; and WHEREAS, it has been determined that a 10 percent transient occupancy tax is a fair and adequate tax both for the City of Beaumont and the occupants of hotel rooms; and WHEREAS, the transient occupancy tax is levied for revenue purposes, and is necessary for the usual financial operation of the City, and when collected, shall be made a part of the general funds of the City of Beaumont. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Beaumont as follows: SECTION 1: The Council of the City of Beaumont hereby amends Section 3.28.030 to increase the transient occupancy tax on each and every transient (as that term is defined in the Beaumont Municipal Code) occupying a hotel room (as defined in the Beaumont Municipal Code) in the City, to the amount of ten (10 percent, which tax shall be collected from such transient at the time and in the manner provided in the Beaumont municipal Code. SECTION 2: This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its final passage in accordance with the provisions of Section 36937 of the California Government Code, and the specific authorization for adoption is pursuant to the provisions of Section 53340 of the Act. SECTION 3: The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be published and posted pursuant to the provisions of law in that regard and this Ordinance shall take effect thirty (30) days after its final passage.
