AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
REPEALING SECTION 17.65.205
OF THE BEAUMONT MUNICIPAL CODE
AND ADDING TO THE BEAUMONT MUNICIPAL CODE
SECTION 17.65.205, GENERAL LANDSCAPING PROV::SIONS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1: Section 17.65.205 of the Municipal Code of the
City of Beaumont is repealed.
Section 2: Section 17.65.205 is added to read as follows:
17.65.205 Landscaping.
1. PUBLIC OPEN SPACE AREAS. All public open space areas
shall be landscaped as follows:
a. Landscaping shall include shrubs, trees, vines,
ground covers, hedges, flowers, bark, chips, decorating cinders,
gravel, and similar material which will improve the appearance of
yard areas. At least 85%. of the landscaped area must be covered
with growing plant materials. The growing plant materials must
achieve at least 50% coverage of the landscaped area within one
year of planting.
b. Required front and street side yards saall be
continually maintained by the property owner and shall not be
used for off-street parking of vehicles or loading spaces.
c. An automatic sprinkler system shall be installed in
all landscaped areas to insure the proper maintenanDe of plant
materials. Hose bibs shall be placed at intervals Df not less
than 200 feet.
d. Where mature trees already exist, the area shall be
maintained to make the best use of this existing grDwth and
shade.
2. PRIVATE OPEN SPACE YARD AREAS. All privata open space
yard areas shall be landscaped as follows:
a. Landscaping may include any of the materials noted
under public open space yard areas. There is no requirement as
to coverage except that nonplant materials shall not be used
exclusively in lieu of growing ground covers.
b. Required front and side yards shall be continually
maintained by the property owner and shall not be used for
off-street parking of vehicles or loading spaces.
c. Each yard shall be served by at least Dne permanent
water irrigation line utilizing sprinklers or hose Dib(s).
d. Where mature trees already exist, the area shall be
maintained to make best use of this existing growth and shade.
3. OPEN SPACE: DEFINITION. "Open space" meals that space
upon the lot or parcel to which it is appurtenant, which is
essentially unimproved and which includes, but is npt limited to,
usable open space (as defined in Section 17.20.310-11),
driveways, parking areas, utility space such as trash or garbage
areas, space occupied by the required yard set backs and public
easements.
