AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
AUTHORIZING THE CONSOLIDATING OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTIONS WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTIONS HELD IN
NOVEMBER OF EVEN -NUMBERED YEARS
The City Council of the City of Beaumont does ordain as follows:
Section 1: Authority and Purpose
This Ordinance is enacted under the authority of Sections 1301 and 10403.5 of the
California Elections Code, for the purpose of consolidating general municipal elections
with Statewide General Election held in November of even -numbered years, in order to
facilitate increased voter participation.
Section 2: General Municipal Election Date
General municipal elections in the City of Beaumont shall henceforth be
consolidated with the Statewide General Election held on the first Tuesday after the first
Monday in November of even -numbered years.
Section 3: Extension of Terms
The terms of City officeholders shall be extended as necessary, but no more than
12 months. As used herein, "12 months" means the period between the day upon which
the term of office would otherwise have commenced and the first Tuesday after the second
Monday in the 12th month before or after that day, inclusive.
Section 4: Rescission
City of Beaumont Ordinance No. 540, enacted December 28, 1981, is hereby
rescinded in its entirety.
Section 5: Notice to Voters
Within 30 days after this Ordinance becomes effective, the City elections official
shall cause a notice to be mailed to all registered voters informing the voters of a change in
the election date and that as a result of the change, the terms of office of the elected City
officeholders will be changed.
Section 6: Effective Date
This Ordinance shall become effective in 30 days, or upon approval of this
Ordinance by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Riverside, whichever is later.

by the following vote:
AYES: Council Members Westcot, Berg, Parrott, and Zeller.
NOES: None.
ABSTAIN: None.
ABSENT: Mayor Leja.
