INITIATION: Mayor Dickason called the meeting of the City Council to order 2. at 7:30 P. M. and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. 3. INVOCATION: Bishop Verle Funk, of the Church of Latter Day Saints, Kauffman and Longden, Temple City, gave the invocation. 4. ROLL CALL: PRESENT: Councilmen - Fitzjohn, Merritt, Tyrell, Dickason ABSENT: Councilman - Buchan ALSO PRESENT: City Attorney Shatford and City Manager Woollett 5. CANVASS OF VOTES: Following the Canvass of Votes it was determined as follows: 1. The whole number of . votes cast in the City was 7397, the whole number of absentee votes was 30, making a total of votes cast of 7427. 2. The total of 7427 votes cast was distributed as follows: T. Donald Buchan 1112 Howard M. Dickason 1775 Louis W. Merritt 1355 Carl Clark 836 A. L. Nunamaker 1355 qilliam C. Pursley 994 On this basis Louis W. Merritt, A. L. Nunamaker, and (coward M. Dickason were declared elected as Councilmen. 6. RESOLUTION NO. 62 -199: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY, CALIFORNIA RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENER- AL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY OF TEMPLE CITY ON THE 10th DAY OF APRIL, 1962, DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTER AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW. Councilman Tyrell moved to adopt Reso- lution No. 62 -199, Councilman Merritt seconded, roll call vote as follows: AYES: Councilmen - Fitzjohn, Merritt, Tyrell, Dickason NOES: Councilmen -None ABSENT: Councilman - Buchan The City Clerk administered the Oath of Office to the new mem- bers of the Council and presented each with a Certificate of Election 8. At this time Mayor Dickason invited Councilman Nunamaker to takE his chair at the Council table and welcomed him as the new member of the Council. NEW COUNCIL: 9. Mayor Dickason now vacated the chair to City Clerk Woollett to preside for the election of the new Mayor. Councilman Dickason placed the name of Jack Tyrell in nominatior for Mayor. Councilman Fitzjohn moved that nominations be closet City Clerk Woollett so ordered, and by unanimous acclamation Jack Tyrell was named the new Mayor of Temple City. At this time Mayor Tyrell took the Chair. 10. Mayor Tyrell called for nominations for Mayor Pro Tem. Council• man Merritt nominated Councilman Nunamaker, Councilman Dickason moved to close nominations. Mayor Tyrell so ordered, and de- clared Councilman Nunamaker duly elected Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Temple City. 266 Council Minutes, April 17, 1962, Page 2 11. Mayor Tyrell requested Councilman Nunamaker to be Alternate Dir- ector for the Sanitation District which he accepted. 12. Mayor Tyrell requested Councilman Merritt to be the Council re- presentative to the Finance Committee, to which he agreed. 13. TIME RESERVED FOR AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION: Mr. Edw. Kipp of the First So. Baptist Church requested permis- sion of the Council to conduct services in the City parks and `. was advised to submit a letter of request with full information to the City Manager to be presented to the Council. 14. MATTERS FROM CITY OFFICIALS: Councilman Dickason thanked the Councilmen for their cooperation during his term as Mayor and also the Press and the public. Councilman Merritt stated he enjoyed working with the Council the past two years and looked forward to many more enjoyable hours of work for the nextt-wo-aears. Councilman Nunamaker said he felt it a privilege and honor to be accepted and sit here with the Council which has done such a wonderful job for the City of Temple City. He appreciated the votes cast for him and hoped he an work with the Council to improve the City of Temple City. Mayor Tyrell welcomed Councilman Nunamaker as the new member of the City Council. City Manager Woollett requested the Council at this time to set for Public Hearing on May 14, at 8 P. M. properties at 5346 N. Temple City Blvd., and 9602 E, Olive St., to be considered regarding curb and gutter. Councilman Nunamaker so moved, Councilman Merritt seconded, roll call vote as follows: AYES: Councilmen: Dickason, Fitzjohn, Merritt, Nunamaker, Tyrell NOES: Councilmen -None ABSENT: Councilmen -None 15. ADJOURNMENT: Councilman Fitzjohn moved to adjourn, Councilman Nunamaker se- conded and carried. Council adjourned at 7:55 P. M. until the next regular meeting on April 23, 1962, at the City Hall.
