A RESOLUTION: INITIATING AMENDMENTS TO THE TOWN CODE TO EXPAND
THE GOLF CART SERVICE AREA
WHEREAS, Leesburg's downtown has recently seen a surge of breweries and restaurants
that have attracted many visitors; and
WHEREAS, a local company desires to expand the golf cart shuttle services throughout
the downtown in order to transport patrons of the breweries and restaurants from public parking
locations to the various establishments; and
WHEREAS, Code of Virginia Section 46.2-916.2 et seq. authorizes the Town Council to
designate certain public streets where the operation of golf carts may be permitted so long as
certain statutory requirements are met; and
WHEREAS, the Town Council desires to consider amending the Town Code to expand
the operation of golf carts on downtown streets.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED, the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia directs
Town staff to present information at a future public meeting regarding whether golf carts can be
expanded within the downtown, and to prepare draft amendments to the Town Code to permit
the operation of golf carts on South King Street to Fairfax Street and to 462 Harrison Street SE.
