May 5, 1980
A Special Meeting of the Tybee Island City Council was
held immediately following the municipal election on May 5, 1980
for the purpose of receiving the Certified Election Returns of the
Tybee Island Municipal Election held on May 5, 1980; and to adopt
a resolution so that official notation thereof may be made in the
records of the City of Tybee Island.
Mayor M. J. Counihan presided and the following members of
Council were present: Nick C. Alexander, Jerome Bettencourt, Jack
Owen and William C. Fleetwood. Also present were the two newly -
elected council members: Julianne J. Meyers and James L. Fabrikant,
Jr. The City Attorney, W. Lance Smith, III was present as was the
Election Superintendent, Judge Robert Cook.
Judge Cook read the following results: for Mayor, M.J.
Counihan received 460 votes to 408 for Christopher P. Solomon. The
six candidates for Council with the highest votes were as follows:
John (Jack) Owen - 582, Jerome Bettencourt - 548, James Fabrikant -
537, William C. Fleetwood - 521, Julianne J. Meyers - 483, and
Nick C. Alexander - 468.
A resolution accepting the election returns was read and
Councilman Fleetwood moved that the resolution be adopted. Council-
man Owen seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
The meeting was adjourned.
