Correctly responding to the Census is important for all levels of government, as many programs are funded based on the population reported for the area. Your representation in Congress is impacted by Census results. In order for Tybee to receive its fair share of State and over $400B in Federal government funds, please be sure to fill out and return the Census forms in a timely manner! You will never be contacted by phone or email in regards to this Census, and your responses to the 10 questions in the 2010 Census will be kept anonymously in the Census database. In fact, all Census Bureau employees take an oath of nondisclosure and are sworn for life to protect the confidentiality of the data. The penalty for unlawful disclosure is a fine of up to $250,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both. Your personal information cannot be shared with the Internal Revenue Service, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Central Intelligence Agency or any other government agency. Not even the President of the United States. If you have questions about anyone claiming to represent the Census Bureau, you can call (888) 586-9439. Recycling Matters Tybee’s waste contractor, WastePro, picks up not only trash and yard trimmings, but recycling also. You should have a recycling bin for all recycling materials. Your participation in recycling is important to help keep City costs down on waste removal – every pound not recycled costs everyone on the island a little bit extra! The following recyclable items will be picked up on your neighborhood recycling schedule: -  Glass containers (no glass tableware nor light bulbs) -  Aluminum and steel or tin cans (no spray cans, tin foil nor other food wrappings) -  Newspapers, office paper, and magazines (not waxed paper nor paper that has been contaminated with food or oil spill) -  Plastic bottles with a #1 thru #7 recycling symbol (no Styrofoam, soap or oil containers, nor other recycling numbers) -  Collapsed, corrugated cardboard boxes (no boxes that have not been broken down, nor cardboard contaminated with food or oil spill) “Broken down” means cut taped seams, detach all corners and flatten the boxes. Stack broken down cardboard next to your recycling box on your scheduled pick-up day Keep paper and cardboard *dry* until it is picked up for recycling For further details on acceptable materials, schedules, and additional recycling facilities, visit the DPW page on the web, www.cityoftybee.org/PublicWorks.aspx.
