Visit the City Calendar at www.cityoftybee.org to see them all. Keep a Lid on it! Recycling keeps everyone’s costs down for waste management and helps the environment as well. If your recycling material blows down the street, however, it doesn’t do anybody any good! Stop by City Hall’s Cashier’s Desk and ask for your free lid for your recycling bin. It keeps your recycled paper dry, helps to keep pests out, and makes your job taking material to the curb easier! Watch Out for Pedestrians! The season is just beginning. Remember, Georgia State Law requires that you STOP for pedestrians in marked cross walks. If someone is crossing or trying to cross in a marked sidewalk, you must stop to allow them to cross. It is also illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume that a pedestrian is crossing. Also remember the speed limit on Butler Avenue is 30 MPH from the Curve all the way to Tybrisa. Following our speed limit will help you stop in time at crosswalks, too! Check Payments Will Immediately Debit Your Account Effective immediately, thanks to a new credit processing system, payments for utilities, fines, and fees will result in the money being withdrawn from your account upon receipt of the check. Be careful! There is no more float, so funds will need to be present in your account when you write the check to avoid overdraft problems with your bank, and potential check bounce fees. More About the 2010 Census Although mailed census forms are due to be returned by April 1st, the Census Bureau does not mail forms to PO boxes. Most Tybee residents will not receive a form in the mail! Beginning May 1st and potentially running until June 30th, Census workers may be visiting uncounted homes to make sure everyone is included. To avoid an unscheduled visit and help Tybee be counted, Census workers are at the Cafeteria from March 22nd thru April 19th, Mon-Tues, 4–7PM, and Wed-Fri, 8–11AM. They will answer questions or help you to fill out forms. Packets with census forms in 10 different languages are available in the Gymnasium; you can pick them up any time the Y is open and come to the Cafeteria if you have questions. Tybee’s share of funding from the federal, state, and county governments is determined by the population counted by the Census. These funds contribute to infrastructure and services on Tybee by bring your tax dollars back to be spent on the island. With the relatively small population in Tybee, it becomes even more important that every person participate! Help Tybee. Be Counted. Lost & Found Forum Working! The Lost & Found Forum on the City’s website has been helping reunite about one pet with its owner per week since it opened last month. Check out the City Forum link on the City’s Home page. You will need to register to create a login, but there is no fee and the registration is just to make sure we only have real people participating in the forums. Credit is Back for Parking Parking and IT department staffs finally were able to complete work on upgrades to the parking kiosks around the island to allow the return of credit card processing for parking fees. As one of the major sources of revenue for the City, parking fees help keep property and business owner taxes and fees down. Parking spaces are a scarce resource, and the parking team is carrying out the will of our elected representatives to make sure they are paid for. Please remind visitors that they must pay for parking while on the island! Parking stickers are available to non-residents at City Hall for $100 annual fee.
