Watch Out for Pedestrians!
Georgia Law requires that you STOP for someone trying to cross in a marked crosswalk. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume that a pedestrian is crossing.
Speed limit on Butler is 30 MPH.
Be Sure Your Work is “Permitted”!
The Community Development Department is putting forth tremendous effort to protect you from unsafe work being done by unskilled or unlicensed “contractors.” All work performed at your
home or business, whether done by you or by an outside party, requires a permit. Often a small repair job will be a “no fee” permit but the work still requires a permit. If you have
work done by an outside party, please be sure that they have the correct license and that they obtain a permit prior to beginning the job. Also, if you have work done by an outside
party, be sure you or they have had a “Final Inspection” by this office prior to paying them. We want to be sure that you get what you are paying for and that the work is safe.
The State of Georgia and the City of Tybee Island have laws and ordinances in place for your protection. Please help us to help you by obtaining a permit.
If you have any questions whatsoever regarding permitting or contractor licensing, please do not hesitate to call (912) 786-4573, extension 114 or 136.Help Emergency & Utility Staff
Don’t Forget to Sign up for Utility Autopay
Utility bills are due on the 20th each month. Many residents and property owners elect to call in to make their monthly payment via credit card to save the cost and inconvenience of
checks. However, if you sign up for autopay, the only thing you have to remember is to check your bank statement – your total amount due will automatically be deducted from your bank
account according to your instructions. Payment will be deferred until the due date, keeping your interest money in your pocket. So far, only 13% of utility customers have signed up
for autopay, which means you and 2600 other people are all trying to pay at the same time on the due date! You can save yourself and our cashiers time and make life more convenient!
You will need an email account, your utility account number from your bill, and the amount of your last successful payment in order to get signed up. Go to the City’s web page, click
“Online Payments” on the left, and select “Pay Utility Bill”. Click “Create an Account” and proceed to enter the information as requested. If you have forgotten your password, you may
need to call City Hall to have your account unlocked so you can request a new password to be emailed.
We can assist you if you are having trouble getting your account set up if needed. Once set up, you can check on your utility usage history and previous bill payments, or you can simply
let the system work its magic, month after month.
Call City Hall at 912-786-4573 and dial x110 to speak with Nalene Conway, the utility billing clerk, or x126 to speak with Michael Bodine in IT for any questions or assistance!
