TIPD Will Host Neighborhood Watch Meeting A public Neighborhood Watch meeting will take place at the Police Station, Jan 17, 6:30pm, corner of Fort and Van Horn. Refreshments will be served. Please plan to attend and to participate in your local Neighborhood Watch efforts. At that same meeting, there will be a fund drive for our Police Association – stickers will be available for $20 cash or check (made out to Tybee Island Police Association.) You also may mail donations to PO Box 1340, TI, 31328. Business Registration Fees Due The Planning Department has mailed 2012 Business Registration forms to all businesses registered in 2011. If you are starting a new business, be sure to stop by Zoning to obtain your business license. All business registration forms and fees must be filed by Mar 31. Fines will be levied beginning Apr 1! Golf Cart Use on Tybee As a reminder, all carts used for transportation on the island must be registered with the Police Department and comply with the terms of our City Ordinance: must be equipped with head, tail, and brake lights, and a top flasher; have available seat belts, worn by all occupants; top speed: 20 MPH; Stay off sidewalks; Comply with all traffic regulations; Drivers must be 16 years or older and hold a valid driver’s license; Must have adequate insurance; May pay to park in metered spaces or obtain a $100 parking sticker – no free stickers for carts!; and, must register and pay $15 fee at the TIPD on Van Horn, during regular business hours: M-F, 9a-4p Senior Fee Discounts The City of Tybee Island has a deadline to apply for the Senior Homestead Exemption Water & Sewer Rate by April 30th. To qualify, you must: Be age 62 or older Apply for your Tybee home which must be your primary, owned residence Have combined yearly household income under $30,000 Provide written proof of income (tax return from previous year) Apply before the deadline Applications are available at the City Hall Cashier’s office or under the Forms link on the City website. Discounts for water and trash services are provided to qualified homes. Seniors with these same qualifications, though with a maximum of $25,000 in income, can apply for a school tax exemption on their Chatham County taxes. This is a COUNTY tax exemption, so you must contact the office of the Chatham County Tax Assessor and make your application prior to March 1st according to county requirements. Citizens’ Tuesday with the City Manager Diane Schleicher, City Manager, sets aside the first Tuesday, monthly, 6-7pm, to discuss your topics of concern about Tybee. The first such session will take place February 7th. Please call Sharon Shaver, the CM assistant, at 786-4573, x137 for your appointment. To Address City Council …about an existing agenda item, please ask to be recognized during public comments. To get on the agenda, file an Agenda Request with the City Clerk by noon, Wednesday, eight days prior to the Meeting! Council meets 2nd & 4th Thursday, 7PM, each month. If you are speaking or presenting to Council, please be aware you must provide a copy of your presentation 48 hours in advance to the Clerk or to IT staff at City Hall!
