Water Fair Once again, the Citizens’ Resources Committee will be hosting a Water Fair in the Tybee Gym all day on February 11th. This year, this educational day for residents about water and energy conservation will include indoor and outdoor presentations and activities from various vendors and experts. Last year's fair was very successful, providing many ideas for saving water, energy, and your pocketbook! Be sure to plan on attending! Business Registration Fees Due All business registration forms and fees must be filed by March 31; forms were sent to all existing registrants earlier this year. Every business must have a business registration on file with the Planning and Zoning Department. Fines will be levied beginning Apr 1! Electronic Utility Billing Coming The City has begun the necessary tasks to begin to provide optional, electronic billing, in addition to our existing online and automated bill paying options. Watch this newsletter for a chance to save some paper and further automate your interactions with the City. We encourage everyone to sign up for paperless transactions to save time and to make your tax dollars work more efficiently! You’ll never have a late fee if you automate your payments! Green Team Energy Savings Report The employee Green Team and the Citizens’ Resources Committee are pleased to report that, thanks to energy conservation efforts like efficient lighting and automated thermostats, City Hall and the Old School energy use for the 2011 year has been reduced an average of 29% and 22% respectively, compared with 2008, before installation efforts began. The Fire Department has remained steady, while the Tybee Gym has had several problems with the environmental air systems and, unfortunately, has seen an increase in usage. While last January’s extreme cold contributed somewhat to the increase, DPW will continue to work to effect necessary upgrades at the gym to insure our savings are across the board! Third Thursdays Performers’ Applications Due Chanel Morton, 786-4573, x123, is accepting applications for inclusion in this year’s Third Thursdays programs. Applications are available online or at City Hall, and are due by close of business on Monday, February 6th. Citizens’ Tuesday with the City Manager Diane Schleicher, City Manager, sets aside the first Tuesday, monthly, 6-7pm, to discuss your topics of concern about Tybee. The first such session will take place February 7th. Please call Sharon Shaver, the CM assistant, at 786-4573, x137 for your appointment. Bicyclists Must Follow Rules of the Road! Cyclists, and parents of cyclists, please be aware that you must obey all traffic signals, like stop signs. For the safest riding experience, we encourage everyone to use the bike route that runs north to south on 2nd Avenue. Most of the stop signs have been removed there, but not all! It is very important that bicycles obey the stop signs and prevent accidents. Riding bicycles on the sidewalks is prohibited by state law. Riders under the age of 16 MUST wear helmets, and we encourage adults to protect their heads as well. Leadership Tybee Program Leadership Tybee will be starting again this spring. Applications are due by the end of February. Interested candidates will find the application form available online for electronic filing or you can print and return the form to City Hall. This program brought the successful Reach for the Stars program to the Tybee Post Theater fund raising efforts last year, as well as several other, less visible efforts to improve Tybee. Polish your leadership skills, learn to interface more effectively with your local government, and add a bit of respected education to your resume by signing up for this program. A $125 fee must be paid by applicants, their sponsors, or through an available scholarship. To Address City Council …about an existing agenda item, please ask to be recognized during public comments.
