Sign Up For CEMA or Tybee Alerts Both CEMA and the City have alert systems that can give informational notices of potential road flooding and closure, high winds, heavy rains, and other disrupting events. We try not to over-use the City’s Citizen Alert system, so warnings there are rather severe. CEMA posts notices of Tybee Road closures as predicted. Subscribing to CEMA Alerts requires you visit www.chathamemergency.org - put your email in the box, then click SUBSCRIBE. For Tybee’s Citizens Alert, visit www.cityoftybee.org and click the “Citizens Alert” button below the weather map. You will also need your email address to create a login, but here you may select the types of notification you wish to receive – road closures, water outages, meeting notices, and/or weather emergencies - and where you would like to get them – home, phone, work, cell, landline, email, text message, or any subset. Tybee’s Coyote – The Story Continues Tybee’s Animal Control is getting additional consulting assistance from Effingham County in an effort to dart or trap the coyote or coyotes roaming the island. Oatland Island Wildlife Center has already indicated that they will not be able to take on the care of this animal if the trapping is successful. If no other potential homes can be found, the coyote will have to be euthanized, as GaDNR has indicated that relocation to anywhere else will not be allowed. Online Utility Billing Go paperless for your water and sewer services by sending email to utilitybilling@cityoftybee.org. Include your name, account, phone number, and email. Visit the City’s web site article “Opt-in to Electronic Utility Billing” then click there for an email form. Alternatively, you may contact Nalene Conway at 472.5025 to sign up. Pay your utility bill online with a credit card (look for the “Online Payments” link on the left), or with an automatic debit application (download from the “Downloads > Forms” link). Pedestrians and Bicycles! Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! If cycling on Tybee, please use the 2nd Ave bike route. If you are driving, remember, cyclists have all the rights of a motor vehicle, and you MUST provide 3’ from the nearest cyclist when passing! Georgia State Law requires that you STOP for any pedestrians crossing or trying to cross at any marked cross walks. It is also illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Remember, the speed limit on Butler Ave is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. We will see an especially high level of visitors during Pirate Fest – please exercise extra care whether walking, biking or driving! Mark your calendar for Community Day At the end of the tourist season, Tybee Community Day will be Sunday, October 21, 12 – 5pm in Memorial Park. Here’s a day to celebrate Tybee– backyard picnic style – with live music, games for all ages, community information & more! Call 472-5071 for more.
