DPW & TBA to Improve Median Westbound Hwy 80 in the Chimney Creek area will be closed while Public Works and Tybee Beautification continue sprucing up the median with grass and plantings. Exact dates are yet to be determained, but traffic should be able to continue unimpeded – just slow down a bit and watch out for staff! Thanks from DPW and TBA members! Keep Your Water Meter Clear Our new automatic meter reading system is helping the City and homeowners save money, but sometimes a transmitter may stop working or a meter may need repairs or inspection. The Water and Sewer team needs homeowners to keep the water meters cleared of vegetation and decoration so they can be easily found and accessed as needed. If technicians can’t find your meter, you may end up paying more on your water bill as they can’t fix a problem. Worse, you could be charged a fine for not keeping the top of your meter cleared and visible! Low-Flow Toilets Reduce Your Water/Sewer Bills! If you’re going to be doing any remodeling, keep in mind, you can purchase ultra-low-flow toilets from the City, at cost, $165! These “assisted flush” systems only use 0.8 gallons per flush to do a more complete flushing job than older toilets – low flush toilets typically use at least a gallon, and older ones can use as much as four! You’ll save money on the cost of the toilet itself, and you’ll save money every month on your water bill! Stop by the cashier’s desk at City Hall to get your ultra-low-flow toilet. 2012 Mayors’ Motorcade Needs Your Help Since 1958, the Mayors’ Motorcade has been providing small gifts and personal items for residents of Georgia’s seven regional hospitals. This year, to increase Tybee’s giving, there will be a Fall Festival at the American Legion Hall on December 1st from noon til 6pm. Snacks, games, burgers’n’dogs, bake sale, silent auction, raffle, all will be provided for participants who bring a donation of funds or an item from the gift list which can be found on the City’s Calendar pages for December 1st. Online Utility Billing & Bill Paying Go paperless for your water and sewer services. Ccontact Nalene Conway at 472.5025 to sign up. Pay your utility bill online (look for the “Online Payments” link on the left), or with an automatic debit application (download from “Downloads > Forms” link). Pedestrians and Bicycles! Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! If cycling on Tybee, please use the 2nd Ave bike route. If you are driving, remember, cyclists have all the rights of a motor vehicle, and you MUST provide 3’ from the nearest cyclist when passing! Georgia Law requires that you STOP for any pedestrians crossing or trying to cross at any marked cross walks. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Remember, the speed limit on Butler Ave is 30 MPH.
