Unpaid Utility Bills Will Result in Water Shutoff! The Water Department will begin strictly enforcing the cut off procedure, as of January, 2013,per current Ordinance (section 70-38), which states water service may be discontinued whenever total billing for water, sewer, and sanitation services (if included) is not paid in full at the city cashiers office on the due date. Bills are due the 20th each month, and shall be declared delinquent 25 days following the date of billing. A late charge of $15.00 will be charged. This gives a few days after the due date to pay before delinquent accounts face shut off. When service is discontinued due to delinquency, it shall not be restored until the delinquent bill is paid in full, including the late fee. A flat fee of $35.00 shall be charged when service is resumed after normal working hours: M-F, 8a-4p. Home Improvements Require Permits For the do-it-yourself remodeler, obtaining permits takes time, adds cost, and sometimes the proposed project is not allowed by Tybee’s ordinances. Remodeling by sidestepping the permit process will add more time and money, and it may cause a bigger problem later. According to the National Association of Realtors, failure to obtain a permit may complicate or prevent your home’s sale. During the home inspection or appraisal process, homeowners may have to prove that permits were obtained. If the lending bank learns that remodeling was done without a permit, it may decline the loan. Have a permitting question? Call (912) 472-5030, or visit City Hall. Coyote Threat Reduction Workshop Lynsey White Dasher, Urban Wildlife Specialist from The Humane Society of the United States will be providing a Coyote Training Workshop at the Tybee Gym on Tuesday, December 18th at 7 – 9 PM. This session will teach attendees how to prevent coyotes from becoming a nuisance by "hazing" them, how to reduce the numbers and kinds of coyote attractants, and how to minimize threats to pets and people. Remember, do not leave food out for the coyotes – doing so will make them lose their fear of humans which immediately puts everyone in danger of confrontation with and attacks by the coyotes. To learn more about coyotes now, visit: http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/coyotes/ for more information.
