City Hall to Remain Closed on Saturdays Saturday hours are not heavily used, so City Hall will not be reinstating Saturday hours. The lobby opens every weekday from 7:30 until 5:00. To make a payment, you can drop it any time in the secure lockbox just to the right outside of the lobby door. Be Safe! Please exercise caution on Tybee streets as seasonal crowds grow! Remember, the speed limit on Butler is 30 MPH! STOP FOR PEDESTRIANS attempting to cross at any crosswalk! When cycling, please use bike routes on Second Avenue for north-south travel, and Van Horn for east-west. Cycling on Jones is a danger to you and to drivers, while car doors, pedestrians, and vehicle traffic make cycling on Hwy 80 exceptionally dangerous! New Drive-by Automatic Meter Readers New, drive-by-reading water meters will begin installation during May. Installation will proceed for up to six months until all meters are converted. These new Neptune Water Meters will be installed by Delta Municipal Supply. Make sure your meters are easily visible and accessible as required by City Ordinance. Thanks for your help! Recycling Schedule Survey Results Council is considering side-door pick-up of trash by WastePro. To gauge interest, Council asked for a quick survey, intended only to get an over view of how opinions were leaning. It was never intended to be a comprehensive voting mechanism! With over 300 participants, however, a good sample size was reached, though none of the responses were statistically significant – approximately equal numbers of people wanted to stay with twice weekly trash pick-up; similar numbers wanted to go with weekly recycling; and, while more wanted to go without side-door pickup, a very large proportion wanted it. A summary will be available on the City home page or by request at City Hall. However, a number of excellent suggestions were made, and along with some policy changes to dump bin use at DPW, we wanted to make everyone aware of the following: Commercial landscapers must take yard waste to the dump facility at DPW, 76 Polk Street. A valid Tybee business license is required. Residential yard waste should not exceed 5 cubic yards weekly. Dry waste bags can be used for smaller debris, while palm fronds and branches should be tied up for easy pickup in lengths of 3’ or less. Arrangements can be made (see contacts below) for curbside pick-up of porcelain items, stoves, refrigerators, and large furniture. Such items may be brought to the DPW facility with proof of residence. Residential construction debris must fit, lids closed, in the waste containers. Tile, cement, or metal which makes the bin too heavy to lift will not be picked up. Larger projects should use a commercial dumpster or be brought (with proof of residence) to DPW. All large permitted construction projects require an onsite commercial dumpster. Missed pick-ups, pick-up requests, complaints or commendations may be made by calling WastePro directly at 912.965.0777 or via the links at http://www.cityoftybee.org/PublicWorks.aspx#2212.
