Congratulations to Tybee Island Maritime Academy Classes begin August 12th for the new charter school on Tybee Island. Congratulations and thanks to all the volunteers and staff who have worked for the last several years to bring a school facility back to the island! As of this writing, there are still open seats at each grade level, which includes K-4. Better Hometown is Now the Main Street Program Better Hometown and Main Street have merged to become Georgia’s Classic Main Street Program, a program of the National Main Street Center, a subsidiary of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Since 1980, Georgia Classic Main Street communities have combined to create over 56,000 net new jobs, nearly 12,000 net new small business starts, and $2.98 billion in public and private investment in 96 downtowns across the state. Two Tybee Island Main Street program initiatives remain in effect: the Locals Appreciation Card and the New Resident Welcome Packet. Details of these programs are still at http://www.cityoftybee.org/ BetterHometownProgram.aspx, but you can expect the new name to be reflected in the web address soon! Water & Sewer Department News We have a lot of information for you this month regarding Water and Sewer Services: New Drive-by Automatic Reading Meters: New, drive-by-reading water meters are now being installed, proceeding for up to six months until all meters are converted. The new Neptune Water Meters will be installed by Delta Municipal Supply – workers will be wearing yellow t-shirts. Make sure your meters are easily visible and accessible as required by City Ordinance. Thanks for your help! Remember to sign up for online billing and payment options: To sign up for online billing, contact Nalene Conway at 912.472.5025. Be sure to have your account number, service address, and email address to provide when you call. You can also email this information to Nalene at nconway@cityoftybee.org – be sure to include your phone number in case there are problems! Effective August 1st, new rates are in place for water and sewer services: The rate table was published in last month’s newsletter, and is also available for viewing on the Water & Sewer Department’s web page at http://www.cityoftybee.org/WaterandSewer.aspx. To Address City Council …about existing agenda items, please ask to be recognized during public comments. To get on the agenda, file an Agenda Request with the City Clerk by noon, Wednesday, eight days prior to the Meeting! Council meets 2nd & 4th Thursday, 7PM, each month. Visit City Hall or our web site for a copy of the form. If you are speaking or presenting to Council, please be aware you must provide a copy of your presentation no less than 48 hours in advance to the Clerk or to IT staff at City Hall!
