Tourist Season Ain’t Over til it’s Over! Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! If cycling on Tybee, please use the 2nd Ave bike route. If you are driving, Pirate Fest is the weekend of Oct 10-13, with more than a little of the festive spirits in our pedestrians and cyclers. Particularly with erratic traffic, keep in mind that cyclists have all the rights of a motor vehicle, and you MUST provide 3’ from the nearest cyclist when passing! You must STOP for any pedestrians crossing or trying to cross at any marked crosswalks. It is also illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Remember, the speed limit on Butler Ave is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. Let your out-of-town guests and friends know! City Council Candidate Debate A debate will be held at City Hall Oct 22, 2013, 6–9 pm, to be broadcast and posted online afterwards. Candidates are: Rob Callahan, Bill Garbett (incumbent), Tom Groover (incumbent), Sloan Knudson, and Monty Parks. The three elected will serve 4-year terms, from 2014-17. Each candidate will present brief opening and closing remarks and will be asked questions by a panel of Savannah Morning News reporters and citizens. The debate is open to the public, and the audience will be encouraged to submit questions. Waste Pickup Rules Yard waste is treated differently than kitchen garbage throughout the waste cycle. Please follow these steps: Yard waste is picked up weekly on Wednesdays, the same day as recycling, but in a different truck. Yard waste should be neatly stacked next to the curb. Clippings and leaves should be in waterproof bags or paper bags kept dry until picked up. Palm cuttings and tree branches should be piled and tied in bundles no more than 4 ft. x 4 ft. x 4 ft. Call WastePro directly at 912-965-0777. However, we recommend using the online method, below. If you have any requests or complaints for WastePro, please use our online forms at http://www.cityoftybee.org – click “Recycling and Waste” at the top of the page.
