Your Summer Monthly Reminder Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous! If cycling on Tybee, please use the 2nd Ave/Van Horn-Cedarwood-Meddin bike routes. Cycling on sidewalks is dangerous and illegal! If you are driving, keep in mind that cyclists have all the rights of a motor vehicle, and you MUST provide 3’ from the nearest cyclist when passing! You must STOP for any pedestrians crossing or trying to cross at any marked crosswalks. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Remember, the speed limit on Butler Ave is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. Let your out-of-town guests and friends know! Elections Primary elections will be held this spring on May 20th. Although district 4-11 (south of Hwy 80/First Street) will vote as usual at the Old School Cafeteria, district 4-10 voters will find their polling place, for this election only, moved to American Legion Post 154. As usual, hours will be 7AM til 7PM at both facilities. NEVER Leave Children or Pets in Vehicles Unattended When parked in the sun, the inside of your car can be 40-50° hotter than the air outside. Even on a pleasant, 70° day, your car will warm up to 120° or more. On a hot, sunny, summer day, the interior of your car can easily reach 150°! In only 5-10 minutes, your child or pet can die in that kind of heat. Running into the store for “just a minute” can stretch well beyond those few critical minutes, because you see someone you want to speak with, you forgot something, you have an accident, or the line is a bit longer than expected. Those few minutes can lead to a terrible tragedy – it is never worth it! New Water & Sewer Lines From May 5th until Labor Day, various water lines and force mains will be replaced from Chatham up Jones, out to Polk Street area, finishing down Lewis. Traffic will be open each evening, but may be blocked during the day in each section of the project. A map and estimated dates for each section can be found on the Water and Sewer Department’s web page. Police Department is Open for Business! Despite construction at the Police Station, you can still get in to speak to officers, detectives, and staff. If usual doors are inaccessible, please contact Dispatch, 786-5600, to make other arrangements. Continue to call 911 for emergencies! Consider Composting! Based on data provided by Waste Pro, Tybee residents sent 2410.5 tons (4.8 million pounds) of material to the landfill in 2013. Food scraps and food soiled paper make up a significant percentage of the waste stream. Much of this "waste" could be composted at home, reducing transportation costs and landfill space while producing valuable soil amendments. Celebrate International Compost Awareness Week (May 5-11) by starting your own compost system. See the Georgia Recycling Coalition's website for more information on backyard composting: http://www.georgiarecy cles.org/residential-recycling-programs/composting-yard-trimmings To Address City Council …about agenda items, please speak during public comments. To get on the agenda, file an Agenda Request with the City Clerk by noon, Wednesday, eight days prior to the Meeting! Council meets 2nd & 4th Thursday, 7PM, each month. Visit City Hall or our web site to obtain the form. If you are presenting to Council, you must provide your presentation no less than 48 hours in advance to Clerk or IT staff!
