Driving, Bicycling, Walking on Tybee Cycling on Butler or Jones is dangerous any time of year, but particularly during the tourist season! Cycling on sidewalks is both dangerous and illegal by state law! If cycling on Tybee, please use the 2nd Ave/Van Horn – Cedarwood - Meddin bike routes. If you are driving, keep in mind that cyclists have all the rights of a motor vehicle, and you MUST provide 3’ from the nearest cyclist when passing! STOP for any pedestrians crossing or trying to cross at any marked crosswalks. It is illegal to pass a car stopped at a crosswalk – you must assume a pedestrian is crossing. Children crossing in the other lane will not be visible behind the stopped car! Remember, the speed limit on Butler Ave is 30 MPH from the Curve to Tybrisa. Let your out-of-town guests and friends know! Show Your Numbers Please add visible address numbers to the exterior of your house and to your mailbox if you have one. This small task will make a big difference if there is an emergency. Missing or barely visible house numbers cause dangerous delays for emergency responders. The larger the numbers, the easier they are to see at night and during bad weather. Six-inch tall numbers are ideal and cost a few dollars each at home improvement stores. Municipal Code 54-2 requires building numbers to be posted in a conspicuous place. Police Department is Open for Business! The new Tybee Island Police Department and Court/Public Safety Building is open, and the department has moved into their new digs! To Address City Council …about agenda items, please speak during public comments. To get on the agenda, file an Agenda Request with the City Clerk by noon, Wednesday, eight days prior to the Meeting! Council meets 2nd & 4th Thursday, 7PM, each month. Visit City Hall or our web site to obtain the form.
