A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD, COUNTY OF
LOS ANGELES, STATE OF CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING PRIME HEALTHCARE'S ST.
FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER (SFMC) TO BARGAIN IN GOOD FAITH WITH SEIU-
UHW AND UNAC/UHCP
WHEREAS, over 1,500 registered nurses and healthcare workers employees at
St. Francis have made major sacrifices on behalf of their patients.; and
WHEREAS, they have experienced massive layoffs and cuts and yet still provide
their patients with the best care possible.; and
WHEREAS, since 2020, these essential workers have risked their lives caring for
our community throughout this public healthcare crisis.; and
WHEREAS, burned out and traumatized from the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses
and healthcare workers are leaving the industry in alarming numbers, leaving our state
with an urgent patient care crisis.; and
WHEREAS, During the height of the pandemic, the public deemed them as
"Heroes". Yet, now rising inflation and housing costs have left many of them unable to
afford to live in these same communities where they serve; and
WHEREAS, Patients who visit St. Francis for essential care in our community
cannot afford to be put at further risk.; and
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES
HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE, ORDER AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: The Lynwood City Council supports bargaining in good faith and calls
for Prime Healthcare's St. Francis Medical Center to work collaboratively with SEIU-UHW
and UNAC/UHCP on investing in patient and worker safety.
Section 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and
hereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 16th day of June 2020.
